Slidell Police Arrest “Nigerian Prince” Fraudster
After an extensive 18-month investigation, Slidell Police report they have arrested a “Nigerian Prince”, Michael Neu (67 of Slidell ) who SPD suspects to be the “middle man” in hundreds of financial transactions, involving phone and internet scams, designed to con money from victims across the United States. Some of the money obtained by Neu was subsequently wired to co-conspirators in the Country of Nigeria.
Most of us have seen e-mails about a Nigerian Prince who claims that you are the named beneficiary in a will, to inherit an estate worth a million or more. They ask for personal financial information is needed to "prove" that you are the beneficiary and to speed the transfer of your inheritance.

Did a Thief Accidentally Send Selfies to Victim?
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on October 24th a high-dollar deer camera was stolen from a property on Holloway Road in Roseland. The camera, being equipped with cellular service, sent photos to the victim.
The photos are allegedly of the suspect who must not have realized the camera was sending his selfies to the owner.

Teens Shoot Their Way In to Steal Electronic Cigs
In the early morning hours of December 27, 2017, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating a burglary at the Create-A-Cig Shop on University Ave. in Hammond. With the assistance of the Louisiana State Police and the Hammond Police Department, detectives were able to make two arrests and recover some of the stolen items.The two shot their way into the establishment. Once inside, they shot into the glass cases and stole a large amount of merchandise, including several electronic cig’s valued over one thousand dollars.
With the help of the business owner, assisting law enforcement agencies and this video, detectives identified, located and booked this brazen duo.
Jason Paul Shelton (17) of Hammond and Shane Michael Freeman (18) of Walker were charged with aggravated burglary.

Dangerously Cold Temperatures Coming
A much colder air mass will move into southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana, beginning on New Years Eve, with a prolonged period of much below normal temperatures expected to remain in place through at least Friday of next week.Overnight low temperatures will be especially cold with lows in the middle and upper teens Monday and Tuesday nights. Low temperatures Wednesday and Thursday nights will not be quite as cold, but most areas will still be well below freezing. Daytime high temperatures will be roughly 20 degrees below normal, and have trouble getting past 40 degrees New Years Day and Tuesday. Highs will only be slightly warmer Wednesday and Thursday.
As the cold air arrives Sunday, precipitation will be departing the area, but there could be a brief period of a wintry mix of precipitation as the precipitation ends Sunday evening. If this occurs, it would likely be to the north of Interstates 10 and 12. No significant accumulation is expected.

The Bogalusa Case of the Stolen Hover Boards
It all started on December 1st, when the Bogalusa Police Department was called to Wal Mart about property damage to the chain link fence located in the garden center. Management there observed two hover boards lying next to the fence where a hole had been cut. Devon Cotton (28) of Bogalusa was identified as the suspect in the theft of several other hover boards over a two to three week period.Then, on December 21st, a BPD Detective was in the store conducting an investigation on an unrelated matter, when he was notified that Devon Cotton had just fled the store with another stolen hover board and left the parking lot in a white GMC Yukon. The vehicle was located at a residence in the 600 block of Michigan Ave. Cotton attempted to escape out of the rear door of the residence and was confronted by Officers. Cotton ran back into the residence and then dove out of a window. Cotton fled on foot into a nearby wooded area and the dog chase team from Rayburn Correctional Center was called out to help search. Cotton was eventually located and taken into custody.
Cotton suffered a severed tendon to his thumb when he dove through the window of the residence. He was taken to Our Lady of Angels Hospital in Bogalusa and then to University Hospital in New Orleans. He was treated and released into the custody of the New Orleans Police Department. Upon his release from Orleans Parish Jail, Cotton will be returned to Bogalusa and booked on warrants charging him with Theft between $1,000.00 and $5,000.00, Criminal Damage to Property and Resisting an Officer.
Mother and Son Killed by Impaired Driver on Christmas Eve
Louisiana State Police report that Shelly Mulkey (19) and Ryan McCollum, Jr. (Mulkey's 7-month-old son) were killed in a fiery crash in Tangipahoa Parish on Christmas Eve night (December 24, 2017). The at-fault driver, Jillian Pamela Ramsay (36) of Loranger, was impaired and speeding and fleeing the scene of an earlier crash when she crashed into vehicle occupied by the young mother and her son. She fled the scene of this accident also. A gas tank was ruptured in the collision, resulting in both vehicles catching fire.
Ramsey was treated and released from the hospital. After being released, Ramsay was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on two counts of Vehicular Homicide, Hit-and-Run, and Careless Operation.
Ryan Joseph McCollum, Sr. (24), the driver of the vehicle in which his fiancee and son were passengers, was transported to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadian Ambulance. His condition was not reported.
Ramsey was treated and released from the hospital. After being released, Ramsay was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on two counts of Vehicular Homicide, Hit-and-Run, and Careless Operation.

Four Arrested for Holiday Brawl at Walmart
A large fight inside of the Slidell Walmart on Natchez Drive on Saturday (December 23, 2017) has resulted in the arrests of Alexis Neal (19) of Slidell, Majara Walker (38) of Slidell, Seanice Warren (17) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Morgan Walker (22) of Slidell for Disturbing the Peace by Fighting.The brawl took place in the produce section, some involved sed pepper spray, and involved over ten people. At least two people had to be transported to local hospitals for minor injuries.
The motive of the fight was due to a previous conflict between two different families, and by chance, the two groups encountered each other at Walmart.

Man Arrested After Threats Made Against Slidell Church

After the threats were reported on Tuesday (December 19, 2017, patrol deputies investigated along with members of the Crisis Intervention Team. An Order for Protective Custody was obtained and Gerchow was taken into custody and transported to a facility in St. Charles Parish to be evaluated. Following a criminal investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Terrorizing on Gerchow. A search of his home located a cache of weapons and ammo, along with body armor.
Gerchow was associated with the church and known by the congregation and the pastor. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has dealt with Gerchow in the past regarding disturbances and reports of erratic behavior on his part.
Gerchow has been released from the facility in St. Charles Parish, was placed in the St. Charles Parish jail, and will be returned to St. Tammany at a later date.

Tangipahoa Parish: 7 Arrested in Vehicle Burglary Ring
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that deputies have arrested seven (7) involved in a vehicle burglary ring responsible for multiple vehicle burglaries in Tangipahoa Parish, St. Tammany Parish and in Livingston Parish over the past two weeks.
Early Tuesday morning (around 2:30 am on December 19, 2017), an attentive resident reported to TPSO that multiple subjects were creeping around pulling on car doors. Deputies quickly responded and found four subjects inside a vehicle: a male juvenile (16), Donavan J. Smith (18) of Hammond, Trevon C. Guidroz (17) of Ponchatoula, and Juleah Knight (17) of Hammond. Multiple stolen items were located in their vehicle.
Detectives executed search warrants on two residences in Ponchatoula, where detectives located a stolen firearm, laptop, drug paraphernalia, and numerous personal items stolen from recent vehicle burglaries. Two additional persons were arrested at one of the residences: Ashley Scarbrough (21) of Ponchatoula and Myquela Stewart (18) of Ponchatoula. After further investigation, Jake Daughtery (17) of Robert Jake arrested.
The crew were charged with crimes committed in the Ponchatoula area, the Creeks Apartments on Hwy 51 north of Hammond, in Deer Field and Rock Ridge subdivisions in Loranger, and are linked to multiple crimes in surrounding parishes.

Kentwood Man Killed in Robbery Attempt

Kentwood police are investigating their first homicide in almost a decade. Investigators say Wesley Housely (60) was shot and killed Monday night (December 18, 2017) during an attempted robbery at his home.
Responding to reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound, Officers responded to the 1200 block of Dumaine Street and found the body of Wesley Housely, who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.
Chief Michael Kazerooni says two men wearing dark clothes and masks entered Housely’s home and attempted to rob him. Housely was shot multiple times after a brief struggle with the suspects, according to the police chief. The suspects are both described as average height; one was stocky and one was slender. Both suspects will face the charge of first degree murder, among other charges.
Anyone with any information about the suspects or the crime is asked to call the Kentwood Police Department at 985-229-6305. All callers can remain anonymous.

Slidell: A Traffic Stop – Help From K-9 Thor – Drug Arrest
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday morning (December 17, 2017), a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop on a red Infinity G35 after observing the vehicle run a stop sign in Slidell. Before the deputy could exit his patrol car, the driver of the Infinity, Trequan Rollins (24) of Slidell, exited his vehicle, fled on foot, and then discarded a loaded semi-automatic handgun from the waistband of his pants.
K-9 Thor and his handler were called to help in the pursuit. They quickly located Rollins hiding in a nearby backyard and he was taken into custody and charged with numerous drug, traffic and other violations.
Deputies discovered 7.6 ounces of marijuana, 2.8 ounces of cocaine (packaged for individual sale), a scale, plastic bags and $460 in cash inside Rollins’ vehicle.

Arrest Made in Victoria Secret Robbery
Mandeville Police has announced the arrest of Alicia R. Maloid (29) for the December 12th armed robbery at the Mandeville Victoria Secret. Detectives traced down numerous leads, many which came from the public, and learned Maloid’s identity. Detectives secured an arrest warrant and, with the help of the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, Maloid was taken into custody today (December 19, 2017) at her Baton Rouge residence.
Maloid will be brought back to St. Tammany Parish where she will be charged with armed robbery which carries a minimum 10 year sentence. Maloid has an extensive criminal history in the Baton Rouge area for theft, fraud, drug and related charges.
A search warrant on Maloid’s residence turned up several articles of Victoria Secret merchandise along with other brands that are suspected to be stolen. Ironically Maloid was sporting a VS “Pink” brand t-shirt when she was arrested. Detectives are still actively pursuing the remaining suspects and the investigation continues.

House Burglary Recorded on Video in Bogalusa
On Friday, December 15, 2017, the Bogalusa Police Department received a call about a residential alarm activation on Miller Place. When the BPD officers arrived, they observed a broken window in the rear of the residence but, after searching, did not find anyone inside. The residence was equipped with surveillance cameras and the officers were able to get video footage of the suspect breaking in.The video showed a young black male wearing a hoodie knocking on the front door. When the suspect doesn't make contact with anyone inside, he walks to the rear of the residence and kicks out a window with his foot. The suspect stays inside the residence for approximately 4 minutes and then runs out the through the rear door.
A short time later, a person who matched the description of the suspect was observed walking on Long Avenue. The suspect, identified as Samuel White (18) of Bogalusa, was charged with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling.

Slidell-Area Woman Arrested After Drugs Found in Her Home
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force arrested Brelle Lewis (19) of Slidell Friday (December 15, 2017) and in the process removed a significant amount of narcotics off the streets of St. Tammany Parish. Pursuant to a search warrant of her home, agents located 4,999 dosage units of Tramadol (a pain reliever) and 1,500 units of Carisoprodol (Soma - a muscle relaxer). Also living at the Slidell-area residence were Lewis’ mother, stepfather and four siblings, ages 6, 8, 10 and 13.Lewis was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule IV CDS (2 counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS, and Possession of CDS in the Presence of Juveniles.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force includes members form the Sheriff’s Office as well as the Slidell, Mandeville and Covington Police Departments. The Task Force was assisted by officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as Homeland Security during this investigation.
$90,000 Worth of Meth Found in Slidell Area Home
Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant Thursday (December 14, 2017) at the home of Steven Zoerner (55) of Slidell and recovered approximately two pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $90,000. Detectives also recovered numerous dosage units of prescription medication, a small amount of marijuana, and assorted drug paraphernalia.Steven Zoerner was booked into the St. Parish Jail on the charges of Possession of more than 400 grams of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule II CDS, Possession of a Legend Drug (three counts), Possession of Schedule I CDS, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Woman Sought in Slidell-Area Bank Robbery
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives are working with the FBI in a joint investigation after a Slidell-area bank was robbed Saturday morning (December 16, 2017). A white female walked into the Chase Bank branch at 1943 Gause Boulevard East, implied she had a weapon and handed a teller a note, demanding cash. She then fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of stolen cash.
The suspect is described as a white female, with dark colored hair, approximately 5 foot, 3 inches tall and 160 pounds.
She was last seen on foot headed towards Interstate 10.

Fatal Single Vehicle Crash Near Covington
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred late Saturday night (December 16, 2017) in the Natchez Trace subdivision near Covington. The crash claimed the life of Samuel Collins (36) of Ponchatoula.
STPSO reports that Collins' vehicle exited the roadway, struck a tree, and became engulfed in flames.Prior to the vehicle catching fire, good Samaritans had pulled the driver from the vehicle and attempted to render aid.
Acadian Ambulance transported Collins to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Fire District 2 also responded to the scene.
Speed and alcohol use are believed to be factors in the crash.

Former DA Investigator From Bogalusa Pleads Guilty in Federal Court
MICHAEL J. COTTON (68) of Bogalusa and former Investigator for the District Attorney's office, has pleaded guilty to the one count Bill of Information charging him with soliciting sexual favors from a woman in exchange for obtaining a bond reduction for her boyfriend.Between December 28, 2013, and July 10, 2015, COTTON offered to intervene in legal proceedings and obtain favorable legal outcomes for three females charged with crimes, their friends, family, and significant others who were charged with crimes in exchange for sexual favors.
In July 2015, COTTON demanded sexual favors from a 23-year-old female in exchange for seeking a bond reduction from $25,000 to a $30 signature bond for her boyfriend, a defendant in the Washington Parish jail.
Between December 2013 and March 2014, COTTON requested sexual favors from a 28-year-old female in exchange for arranging for her to retain custody of her minor children and eliminating a drug testing condition she had as the result of prior legal issues.
In January 2014, COTTON used his position to obtain a significant bond reduction for an incarcerated 23-year-old female with whom he had a relationship that involved sexual activity.
COTTON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, followed by up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle set sentencing March 14, 2018.
“Mike Cotton was a profoundly corrupt member of the law enforcement community who victimized some of the most vulnerable women in Washington Parish,” stated Special Agent in Charge Eric J. Rommal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Field Office. “His guilty plea is an important first step toward holding him accountable for his abuses of power.”
A Bit of Christmas Comes to Franklinton Nursing Homes
Chief Olander Smith and Officers of the Franklinton Police Department and the Corbett W. Penton Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #47 visited Heritage Manor and Good Samaritan Living Center this morning (December 15, 2017). They also brought along the Franklinton High School Demonaires under the Direction of Kyle Jones to entertain the residents with a few Christmas songs. Officers gave each resident a Christmas gift and wished each one a Happy Holidays. Chief Smith gave the Administration and staff fruit baskets and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

Shoplifters Use Hammers to Intimidate and Steal
Slidell Police are investigating a bold shoplifting incident where two suspects, armed with hammers, chased and intimidated a store employee, busted open glass electronics cases, and stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. This happened Monday morning (December 11, 2017) at the Wal-Mart.

Two Tried Stealing an ATM in Loranger – Now in Jail
Early this morning (December 14, 2017) around 2:00 a.m., a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy saw a truck backed up to an ATM in the parking lot of the Loranger Supermarket. They were trying to load it into the back of their truck.parking lot but fled when the deputy approached. Deputies pursued he truck until it crashed into a fence. The two suspects then fled on foot into a wooded area. At approximately 8:15 a.m., the subjects were spotted by TPSO detectives, they again fled on foot, but were quickly apprehended. It turns out that the truck was stolen from Kenner and had a stolen license plate.
Arrested were Alfred Cobb (25) and Leonard Williams (33), both of Ponchatoula.
Detectives are still actively investigating the incident, therefore the charges are pending on both subjects. The TSPO is currently assisting the Kenner Police Department with an investigation into the stolen pick-up, as well as multiple stolen vehicles that have been recovered in Tangipahoa Parish from the Kenner area.

Help Catch These Victoria Secret Robbery Suspects
The Mandeville Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday night (December 12, 2017) at Victoria Secret in the Premier Shopping Center. Five (5) individuals made out with stacks of merchandise valued in excess of $1,500.00. Two of the thieves were armed; one with mace, the other with a stun gun. One of the suspects sprayed two of the employees with the mace while a third employee was shocked with the stun gun. The suspects fled in what was described as a silver Honda with a temporary license plate.
The suspects were described as African American females; three were light skinned and two were dark skinned, and all were between 5'5" and 5'10" in height. They are all believed to be in their 20's. One of the subjects had red hair, another had a pony tail, a third one had a thick braid, and the shortest suspect had a blue baseball cap.

Bogalusa Man Charged With Impersonating an Officer
On December 11, 2017, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Demontrey Lavon Mingo (22) of Bogalusa for impersonating a law enforcement officer.A Franklinton area resident called the Sheriff’s Office reporting that an unknown male had come to the door of the residence and wanted to come inside. Although he was not dressed in a uniform and did not provide any law enforcement identification, he insisted that he was a law enforcement officer and needed to enter the residence. After being refused entry, the man then attempted to persuade the homeowner to step outside. The homeowner again refused and stated that a call was being made to the Sheriff’s Office. At that point, the unknown male fled on foot.
Two hours later, the impersonator returned to the area and was confronted by a neighbor who was aware of the ongoing issue. The neighbor called the Sheriff’s Office with a description of the man who once again fled. Responding deputies located and arrested the impersonator, identified as Mingo, on Highway 10 outside of Bogalusa.
“The alert homeowner and the neighbor did the right thing,” said Sheriff Randy Seal. “It appears that Mingo had criminal intentions and was using the scam of being an officer to gain entry into the residence.”

Slidell Man Breaks Handcuffs During Arrest for Robbery
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Leval Butler (35) of Slidell for an early morning robbery today (December 8, 2017) at the Shell station on Highway 11.STPSO reports that Butler entered the Shell station wearing a mask over his face. While threatening the clerk’s life, Butler removed an undisclosed amount of money from the register and fled on foot.
Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and located Butler nearby with the stolen cash still on his person. Butler resisted arrest and broke a pair of handcuffs in the process. However, he was taken into custody and booked on the charges of Simple Robbery, Resisting an Officer with Force, and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.

On Tuesday December 5, 2017, Bogalusa Police Department officers arrested Yamaria Brumfield (22) of Bogalusa and booked him on felony warrants for Attempted First Degree Murder (3 counts).Brumfield is accused of shooting multiple gun shots at two passing vehicles that were traveling on Bayer Street on September 8, 2017. One of the bullets went through a car door, striking a female victim in the right leg.

I-10 Traffic Stop Leads to Big Drug Bust
A traffic stop on I-10 in Calcasieu Parish has led to the arrest of Mai Ly Thuy Johnson (35) of Covington for multiple narcotics and weapons charges and her husband Dujuan Jerel Johnson (36) for Money Laundering.
When Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies made a traffic stop Monday (December 4, 2017) on Dujuan Jerel Johnson, they found him in possession of $72,600. He was arrested for Money Laundering. The investigation continued and on Tuesday, led officers to an apartment in the River Chase area of Covington occupied by Mai Ly Thuy Johnson. There, Troopers and Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office discovered a Century Arms AK-47 Pistol, $9,614.00 in currency, approximately five grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a 20 ton hydraulic press [machined to press and brand kilograms of narcotics], vacuum sealer, table top currency counter, a stolen Ruger LCP .380 handgun, 3.3 kilograms of heroin with an estimated street value of $825,000.and several other items used for the distribution and manufacture of illegal narcotics.
Tip Leads to Arrest of Two Slidell Students on Gun Charges
A Crimestoppers tip has resulted in two Slidell Junior High students being arrested for numerous charges resulting from a firearm being brought to school last Friday. A 14-year-old initially brought a loaded semi-automatic handgun to Slidell Junior High School and a 12-year-old took possession of it. The 12-year-old reportedly showed the gun to several students throughout the day, none of whom notified school officials or the school resource officer. The 12-year-old went even further and began threatening some of the students through social media. Both students were arrested and booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center.Slidell officials are disturbed at how long (almost 24 hours) it took for the incident to be reported. So far, Slidell Police have identified twelve witnesses (all students) who physically saw the gun, or had knowledge of the gun being at school on Friday.

Narcotics Task Force Makes Multiple Arrests in Pearl River Area
Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force wrapped up two unrelated narcotics investigations last month in the Pearl River-area that resulted in the arrests of four individuals and arrest warrants issued for another. Nearly one half ounce of Methamphetamine intended for distribution, more than 300 prescription pills intended for distribution, assorted drug paraphernalia, and 16 firearms were seized as a result of these two investigations.
Arrested were James Smith (62), Glynn Acy, Jr. (51), and Nicolas Payne (32), all of Pearl River. A summons was issued for Glynn Patrick Acy, III for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Arrest warrants were issued for Geoffrey Bennett of Pearl River for Flight from an Officer and No Seatbelt.

Just Throwing Drugs Out the Window Doesn't Work
Monday morning (December 4, 2017), Bogalusa Police Department Patrolman Josh Oalman was traveling behind a vehicle on W. 8th Street and could not read the license plate due to it being covered up. After the vehicle turned on Avenue B, Officer Oalman attempted to make a traffick stop. Officer Oalmann observed the driver lean over and throw several objects out of the front passenger window then continued driving. After a short distance, the driver pulled over and stopped the vehicle.The driver was identified as Brandon Thomas (20) of Bogalusa. Officers located 3 white pills identified as Buprenorphine Hydrochloride and Naloxone Hydrochloride.
Thomas was arrested pm the charges of Possession of Schedule lll Narcotics, Obstruction of Justice, Improper Equipment (display of license plate) and a Probation/Parole Hold.

The vote followed input from James Caleb Martin, Chris McClelland, Kenneth Seal, James T. Thomas, and Brent King. The Council heard comments that King was being “railroaded”, that there was “no reason for King to be removed”, that King “has done a fine job”, that King “has done his level best”, and that replacing King was an “injustice”. Councilman Mike Fussell voted against and all other Councilmen voted for the resolution to appoint King's replacement.
In addition to routine business, the Council voted to reappoint Tammy Magruder to the RMC board and voted to appoint Cynthia August to replace Violet Tate on the RMC board.
President Richard Thomas provided a report to the Council that included his announcement of the resignation of Public Works Director Leo Luchessi, Finance Director Donna Graham provided a report, and Donnell Merrit provided his report on road work performed in the parish.
