Disturbance 1. NOT A THREAT TO US. Tropical Storm Peter. Interests in the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of this system.

Disturbance 2. NOT A THREAT TO US. Tropical Storm Rose.

Disturbance 3. COULD BE A THREAT – STAY TUNED. A tropical wave located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is likely to form into a Tropical Depression by Thursday or Friday while the system moves westward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic Ocean. Formation chance through 48 hours is at 50% and formation chance through 5 days is at 90%. 

Disturbance 4. NOT A THREAT TO US. A storm-force, non-tropical low pressure system, the remnants of Odette, is located about 700 miles west-northwest of the westernmost Azores. This low could acquire some subtropical characteristics over marginally warm waters during the next few days while it executes a small cyclonic loop over the north-central Atlantic Ocean. However, by the end of the week, this system is expected to encounter more hostile environmental conditions. Formation chance through 48 hours is at 20% and formation chance through 5 days is at 40%.

Watermelon Festival & Growers Meeting is Tomorrow

We have been advised that a Watermelon Festival and Growers meeting will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday (September 21, 2021) at Franklinton Town Hall.

Plans are being made and all interested persons are invited to attend.

Two Slidell Area Men Arrested at Car Dealerships

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies apprehended Daniel Brown, age 34 and of Slidell, and Michael Halstead, age 39 also of Slidell, on Sunday (September 19, 2021) at car dealerships near Howze Beach road in Slidell. Deputies located Brown in the parking lot of a car dealership and then located Halstead inside a pickup truck in a separate nearby car dealership. 

Deputies discovered multiple vehicles at three different dealerships had been entered and rummaged through. STPSO Property Crimes detectives responded to the dealerships and further investigation resulted in the two being booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. 

Halstead was booked on the charges of 3 counts of Simple Burglary of a Vehicle, and 1 count of Attempted Simple Burglary of a Vehicle.  Brown was booked on the charges of Simple Burglary of a Vehicle, Attempted Simple Burglary of a Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, and on an outstanding Contempt of Court charge. 

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Florida Man Arrested in St. Tammany Accused of Kidnapping Girlfriend

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jay Langford, a Florida man, after he reportedly kidnapped his girlfriend at knifepoint and drove her from Largo, Florida to Covington, Louisiana.

A concerned motorist called 911 Sunday (September 19, 2021) afternoon after she observed a woman who appeared to be in distress, riding in the backseat of a vehicle that was traveling on Highway 190 in Covington. Shortly thereafter, deputies received a call from the woman herself, who reported she had climbed out of the window of the vehicle and fled after her boyfriend threatened to “kill her and dump her body on some dead-end street.”

The victim told deputies she and Langford had been staying at a residence off Highway 1078 in Covington since they arrived in the area on September 12, 2021. She said he brought her to the residence after he kidnapped her from her home in Florida on September 11, 2021 and on September 18, 2021 he began beating and threatening her.

While enroute to the residence Sunday afternoon, deputies observed Langford driving on Highway 1078. When Langford saw the patrol car, he sped off. Following a brief, high-speed pursuit, Langford was taken into custody. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count each of Domestic Abuse Battery, Simple Assault (Domestic), Possession of Schedule V (Xanax) and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.

Kim McGowan (Angie, La. address) was booked on the charges of Prohibited Acts/Schedule II and Contempt of Court (2 counts) by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office. No bond set at this time.

Jonathan Peters (Bogalusa, La. address) was booked on the charges of Possession of Schedule II Drugs, Resisting an Officer, No Drivers License, Proper Equipment Required on Vehicles, No Proof of Insurance, No Proof/Must Carry Registration, and Failure to Appear by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office. No bond set at this time.

Lonnie Holmes (Angie, La. address) was booked on the charges of Possession With Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs/Ecstasy, Possession of Marijuana, Resisting an Officer, and Contempt of Court by the Bogalusa Police Department. No bond set at this time.

Patric Ricker (Ocean Springs, Ms. address) was booked on the charges of Driving Under Suspension and Possession of Heroin by the Bogalusa Police Department. No bond set at this time.

Priscilla Hatcher (Franklinton, La. address) was booked on the charges of Vehicular Homicide, Driving While Intoxicated (2nd Offense), Allowing Unlicensed Minor to Drive, and Driving Under Suspension by the Bogalusa Police Department. No bond set at this time.

Ritchie Martin (Franklinton, La. address) was booked on the charges of Entry/Remain on Premises After Being Forbidden, Cruelty to Infirm, and Resisting an Officer by the Washington Parish Sheriff's office. No bond set at this time.

Dustin Sumrall (Angie, La. address) was booked on the charges of Telephone Communications: Improper Language, Harassment, Criminal Trespass, Driving With Suspended License Due to Previous DWI or Other, Driving While Intoxicated (2nd Offense), and Open Container in Vehicle by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office. Disturbance 1. NOT A THREAT TO US. Tropical Storm Peter is moving west northwest at 14 mph with sustained winds at 50%. Peter is expected to pass north of the Leeward Islands early this week. Interests in the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of this system.

Disturbance 2. NOT A THREAT TO US. Tropical Storm Rose is moving northwestward over the eastern Tropical Atlantic at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph. Rose is forecast to begin a slow weakening trend around Tuesday.

Disturbance 3. KEEP AN EYE ON THIS. A tropical wave located over the far eastern tropical Atlantic several hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands is showing signs of organization and a tropical depression is likely to form by Friday while the system moves westward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic Ocean. Formation chance through 48 hours is at 20% and formation chance through 5 days is at 70%. 

Disturbance 4. NOT A THREAT TO US.. A storm-force, non-tropical low pressure system, the remnants of Odette, is located a couple of hundred miles southeast of Newfoundland.  This low could acquire some subtropical characteristics by the middle of this week as it moves slowly southeastward over warmer waters across the north-central Atlantic Ocean before moving northward out of the area over the weekend. Formation chance through 48 hours is near 0% and formation chance through 5 days is at 30%.
