Michael Loyd "Mike" Simmons

October 24, 1947 - September 17, 2021

Michael Loyd “Mike” Simmons, a native of Magnolia, MS and a resident of Walker, LA passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the age of 73. Mike served in the National Guard in his younger years. Before becoming disabled, he made a living as an insurance appraiser and worked for the sheriff’s office with the blood hounds. One of the pasttimes that he enjoyed the most was wood working in his shop. He loved to build things from scratch. His greatest role of all was being a grandpaw and a great-grandpaw. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife, children, and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edna Pittman Simmons; children, Craig Simmons, Chad Simmons and wife Susan, Regina Simmons Robertson and husband Hilton, and Rachelle Lynn Simmons; grandchildren, Dustin Robertson and wife Amanda, Brittany Cockerham and husband Ben, Austin Robertson, Taylor Simmons and wife Whitney, Kristin Sicard and husband Jody, Brennan Simmons, Payton Simmons, Kate Simmons, and Anthony Jacobs; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mavis Lucille Schilling Simmons; father, Alvie Loyd Simmons; and brother, Alvie Simmons. 

Visitation at New Zion Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 10:00AM until religious services at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Services conducted by Rev. Larry Blades and Rev. Donnie Easley. Interment New Zion Cemetery, Kentwood, LA. 

McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, in charge of arrangements.
