Pearl River Man Gets 60 Year Sentence for Sexual Battery with a Victim Under Thirteen

District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that on October 21, 2021, Marvin Reyes-Calderon, age 34 and of Pearl River, Louisiana, pleaded guilty in front of District Judge Vincent Lobello on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Reyes-Calderon pled guilty to one count of sexual battery with a victim under 13 and received a sentence of 60 years in the  Department of Corrections, with 40 years to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

On February 14, 2019, the eleven-year-old victim was taken to the hospital by her mother due to complaints of stomach pain. At the hospital, it was discovered that the victim was pregnant. She then disclosed that a relative’s husband, the defendant, had forcibly raped her on two occasions and threatened to kill her family members if she told anyone. Ultimately, the victim gave birth to the baby and DNA testing confirmed that the defendant was the father of the child.

The victim and her mother were in agreement with the plea deal and expressed their relief that the defendant will not have the ability to harm any children in the future.

Assistant District Attorney Tiffany Dover prosecuted the case.

STPSO Participating in National Drug Take Back Day Saturday

This Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office will participate in a one-day collaborative effort with the Drug Enforcement Administration to remove unused and expired medications from homes and medicine cabinets.

Bring your unused prescription drugs for disposal to the STPSO Administrative Building at 300 Brownswitch Road, in Slidell or the STPSO Law Enforcement Complex at 2070 Collins Blvd., in Covington.

Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs will be accepted. Vaping devices and cartridges can also be dropped off at the locations, provided lithium batteries are removed. However, liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Any identifying information should be removed from containers before being deposited.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows year after year that the majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else’s medication being stolen from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office also has permanent drug take-back boxes at both of the above listed locations. This on-going initiative is a collaborative effort in partnership with Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA), the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI), and numerous Louisiana law enforcement agencies. The permanent boxes are accessible during regular business hours, Monday through Friday 8 am. to 4:30 p.m.

Covington Student Who Attacked Disabled Teacher Charged by DA's Office - Faces Up to 10 Years

District Attorney Warren Montgomery advises that Larrianna Jameese Jackson, age 18 and of Covington, was charged on October 15, 2021 with felony Second Degree Battery and Cruelty to the Infirmed. Jackson faces up to 10 years and will be arraigned by 22nd Judicial District Court Judge Richard A. Swartz on December 8, 2021 at 9AM.

Jackson was arrested on October 6, 2021 by the Covington Police Department on the felony charge of Battery of a School Teacher. CPD had responded to Covington High School in reference to a student physically assaulting a schoolteacher after the dismissal bell rang. Officers reportedly learned that the disabled 64-year-old schoolteacher, was viciously attacked by Jackson. Due to injuries sustained by the attack, the teacher had to seek medical attention at a local hospital.

Officers on scene were also provided a video that captured the entire incident. The video shows the schoolteacher sitting at her desk where she appears to be talking to Jackson. After a moment, Jackson punches the teacher, causing the teacher to fall to the ground. As the teacher fell to the ground, Jackson continues to violently punch the teacher.

Officers learned that the attack by Jackson may have been prompted by a viral social media application known as Tik-Tok. Evidently users on the app have deemed it to be a challenge to damage school property and attack teachers.
