Obituary

Darwin Dean Robertson

September 03, 1962 - October 21, 2021

Darwin Dean Robertson, a resident of Bogalusa, passed on from this life on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport in Gulfport, Mississippi with his family by his side.

He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on September 3, 1962 to Penal Houston Robertson and Elgia Mae “Sally” Wheat Robertson. He is the brother of Tami Seal (David) and Dana Whitfield (Ronnie).

Affectionately known as “Fluffy” or “DD,” Darwin had a witty sense of humor and never went long without cracking one of his famous corny jokes. He married Rebecca Hatten Robertson on October 5, 1991, in Poplarville, Mississippi. The two would reside in Bogalusa for the next 26 years and raise two beautiful daughters. After those 26 years of marriage, Darwin and Becky would remain close until the end of his life.

Darwin was a former employee at the Bogalusa International Paper Mill (formerly known as Gaylord and Temple-Inland). He began his career there in 1990 and later retired as a Service Specialist after 22 years in the year 2012.

Outside of his regular job, Darwin served his community in many different ways. He was a member of and eventually the chief of the Washington Parish Fire District 6 Volunteer Fire Department, worked alongside the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. He is responsible for saving countless homes and lives. Darwin considered it a privilege and honor to be able to serve the people of Washington Parish.

When he wasn’t working or volunteering in his community, Darwin had many hobbies he enjoyed. He loved classic cars and anything that could pick up a good amount of speed on a raceway. His love of classic 80’s rock ballads was passed on to his oldest daughter. All of his musical talent was also shared with his youngest daughter. He also loved spending time with his two dogs. One of his favorite past times, however, was taking his weekly trip to thrift shops in the Mandeville area. This included his favorite shop, Gran’s Attic.

He is preceded in death by his father, Penal Houston Robertson; his niece, Brandi Nicole Varnado; and grandparents Curtis and Alma Wheat, and Walker and Adney Robertson.

His memory will continue to be honored and cherished by his family and friends. Darwin is survived by Becky and their two daughters, Ashlyn “Ashy” Robertson and Bethani “Beppi” Franklin; son-in-law Adam Franklin; his mother, Sally Robertson; his sisters Tami Seal and Dana Whitfield; brothers-in-law David Seal and Ronnie Whitfield. He will forever be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will always love and miss their “Uncle DD.” Darwin was also part of a large extended family that included many aunts, uncles, and cousins. While Darwin loved his whole family, everybody who knew him would agree that his one and only grandchild, Dylan Franklin, was the light of his life and he was so proud to be his “Paw-paw D.” His “Little Dilly” will always know how loved he was by his Paw-paw.

Visitation will be held at New Life United Pentecostal Church in Bogalusa on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 10:00 A.M.  until 3:00 P.M. with service immediately following at 3:00 P.M. Interment will follow the funeral service at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Bogalusa.

Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
