A man is dead following a hostage situation that occurred at a Hickory-area home Saturday night.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Hollifield Lane in the Hickory area shortly before 10:00 p.m. Saturday (November 11, 2017) in response to a report of a man shooting a gun inside a residence and holding a female hostage.
When deputies arrived, the suspect exited the residence with the gun and pointed it at deputies. Deputies fired, killing the suspect. No other injuries were reported.
As is standard in such incidents, the deputies involved have been placed on temporary leave pending an investigation. No other information will be released at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.

Human Skull Found by Hunter Near Slidell
A human skull was discovered by a hunter Friday (November 10, 2017) in the woods of the wildlife refuge adjacent to the Palm Lake area in Slidell.
Investigators turned the skull over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
There were no immediate signs indicating foul play and no other skeletal remains were found in the area.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also responded to the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.

Pearl River Man Convicted of Robberies During Crime Spree
District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that a St. Tammany Parish jury convicted Elliott W. Galloway (43) of Pearl River of two counts of first degree robbery and one count of attempted simple robbery for a crime spree he committed in April. Galloway, a multiple offender, faces 40 years to life in prison when he is sentenced December 14, 2017 by District Judge Peter Garcia.The first crime occurred at the Purple Cow convenience store and gas station just after midnight on April 15 this year, when Galloway entered the store and demanded money from the cash register, while placing his hand in his sweatshirt. Fearing he had a gun, the clerk handed over the money. Later, Galloway attempted to rob a Racetrack convenience store. Shortly afterwards, Galloway robbed the Circle K. He ordered the clerk to give him all the money in the register or he would start killing people. As the clerk put the money in a bag, Galloway ordered her not to call the police right away, put his hand in his pocket, and threatened her again.
Deputies later arrested Galloway, slouched in the seat of a car matching the description provided by victims. His door was open, he was parked near another gas station, and he actively resisted as officers tried to arrest him. A pocket knife was recovered from the seat of the car.
Galloway admitted to the robberies and to threatening to kill the clerk, but he claimed he never implied he had a gun. He also said he’d spent 17 years of his life in jail. Galloway’s prior convictions include first degree robbery in 1997, obscenity in 2003, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in 2009, methamphetamine possession in 2009, heroin possession in 2010, aggravated assault in 2016, as well as a hit and run and two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated. Galloway blamed his drug and alcohol use for his troubles and said he would live longer in prison.
The jury deliberated for an hour, including a lunch break, before returning the guilty verdict. Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Authement prosecuted the case.

Former Probation and Parole Officer Arrested
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI), under the direction of Attorney General Jeff Landry, today arrested a former Tangipahoa Parish Probation and Parole Officer. Shane Chaisson (39) of Robert was arrested on one felony count of Malfeasance in Office. While working as a Probation and Parole Officer, Chaisson allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a person under the supervision of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. He was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail as a Fugitive from the LBI and later transferred to Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
“Our elected and appointed officials are expected to respect the public’s trust and follow the law,” said General Landry. “My office is dedicated to investigating crimes and bringing to justice those who break the law, especially public servants who abuse their power. I am proud of my LBI agents for their professionalism and dedication to ending public corruption.”
WPSO Deputy Seizes Marijuana and Counterfeit Money
Early in the morning of November 9, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy Jay Dupre observed a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 21 in the Angie area. He made a traffic stop on the vehicle which contained four males and discovered both marijuana and counterfeit one hundred dollar bills inside the vehicle.An occupant of the vehicle, Darrius Dvante’ Miller (18) of Terrytown (a New Orleans suburb), was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs and possession of counterfeit money.
“Shortly after midnight, when most honest citizens are asleep in their homes, our patrol deputies are working throughout the parish to protect everyone,” said Sheriff Randy Seal. “In this situation, Deputy Dupre made a brave night-time stop on a vehicle containing four unknown males. He handled the entire matter in a professional and safe manner and was able to get both illegal drugs and counterfeit money out of our community. The drug dealer went to jail and our deputy went home to be with his family. That is a good ending.”
WP Jail Inmate's Girlfriend Busted
Acting on information provided by jail personnel from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, agents from the WPSO Drug Task Force and the DEA conducted surveillance in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot the evening of November 8, 2017. Jail personnel had discovered a plan by inmate Michael Miller (30) of Bogalusa for his girlfriend, Shirae Gabrelle Brister (26) of Bogalusa to bring in contraband to the jail for him during visiting hours.
Agents surveilled Brister as she drove around Franklinton and entered the Sheriff’s Office parking lot with the contraband items concealed in a fast food restaurant bag as Michael Miller had directed her to do. She exited with the bag in hand, entered the jail lobby, exited the lobby quickly with the bag and placed the bag back in her car. Agents approached her vehicle and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. A subsequent search of Brister’s car revealed the fast food bag which contained both tobacco and marijuana.
Brister was charged with possession of marijuana and attempted introduction of contraband. Inmate Michael Miller was charged with attempted introduction of contraband.

Mandeville Man Pleads Guilty to Molesting Two Girls
District Attorney Warren Montgomery announces that Adam Parenti (44) of Mandeville, pleaded guilty Monday (November 6, 2017) to one count of molestation of a juvenile and two related sex offenses. District Judge Reginald Badeaux sentenced Parenti to 25 years in prison and lifetime registration as a sex offender.One of the victims was 12 years old in August 2012, when Parenti began assaulting her. The sexual abuse included buying her sex toys, forcing her to use them in his presence, and eventually using them on her. He molested a second 15-year-old victim in a similar way between May and December of 2013. He also forced the children to ingest narcotics and drink alcohol.
Assistant District Attorney Blair Alford prosecuted the case.
Phillipp Bedwell Appointed to Washington Parish Council

Washington Parish Council approved the appointment of Phillipp
Bedwell Monday (November 6, 2017) to fill the vacant seat in District
5, a vacancy created when Councilman Pete Thomas resigned due to
losing his house to a fire and relocated out of the district.
The District includes the Stateline area, Thomas, Pine, Ben’s Ford
and the area around the Bogalusa Library and YMCA.Bedwell will take his oath of office as soon the required paperwork is completed by the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office. It is anticipated this will be at the next scheduled meeting on November 20, 2017. Bedwell will serve as Councilman until a special election called and he is prevented by the Parish Charter from being a candidate in that election.

Porsche Burned and Owner Arrested for Arson
The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested two men, one from Tangipahoa Parish and the other from Pearl River County, Mississippi, for a scheme designed to defraud an automobile insurance company.
On September 19, 2017, the WPSO received a report of a vehicle fire off of Westmoreland Road in the western part of the parish. The burned Porsche was located. It had been placed on concrete blocks and the wheels had been removed. Criminal Patrol Sgt. Randy Reviere obtained two key pieces of evidence at the scene: a burned but readable license plate and a pair of pliers with a last name written on one of the handles.
WPSO Detective Kody Glenn began an investigation that led to the arrest of Gary Joseph LeBlanc (49), a resident of Robert, Louisiana and Wesley Herndon (28) of Pearl River County, Mississippi. A third person, Neil Kelly of Folsom, is being sought for his involvement in the crime.
