An update by the City of Covington on construction of the new Bogue Falaya River Bridge states that the project is on schedule and target. Work ongoing right includes widening US 190 on the south side to create new lanes onto the new bridge for northbound traffic (next to Walgreens – where the giant mound of dirt is right now).
The estimated project completion date is Spring-Summer 2025. However, it’s possible the traffic shift onto the new bridge will happen before that. A lot depends on the weather/hurricane season, etc. The work being done now will dramatically increase traffic flow and be a big relief for daily drivers who are currently waiting 10-15 minutes to get through the intersection at peak times. The old bridge will be used as a two-lane bridge for southbound traffic, and the new bridge will handle northbound.
