Washington Parish Council Meeting of October 10, 2022

The Washington Parish Council took action Monday (October 10, 2022) on three Agenda items and heard reports from Parish President Richard Thomas and his staff.

  • An ordinance was introduced that will resolve a school bus turnaround problem on Delta Lane. A Public Hearing on the ordinance and vote will be on October 24, 2022.
  • An ordinance was introduced authorizing the purchase of property at 30245 Railroad Street in Angie to be used as a Washington Parish Library branch. A Public Hearing on the ordinance and vote will be on October 24, 2022.
  • A resolution was approved authorizing the Parish President to sign a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement to assist the Washington Parish Fair Association with skilled labor and mechanized equipment towards road rehabilitation, parking lot, ground surface rehabilitation and/or construction.

Beginning at 4:40 into video of the meeting, Parish President Thomas and his staff provided reports. These included comments by Thomas, Finance Director Donna Graham, Public Works Director Ken Wheat, Transportation Manager Donnell Merritt, and Animal Shelter Manager Kelsey Knight. These reports provide insight into what Parish Government is accomplishing and concerned with; the financial condition of our Parish Government, and efforts to maintain and improve infrastructure.

Of particular note is the report by Kelsey Knight on expanded low-cost spay/neuter programs and low-cost clinics, including programs for persons of low-income. Her report begins at 13:40 into video of the meeting.
