Harrison Lavon Knight
April 27, 1933 — June 21, 2026
Lavon Knight, age 93 and of Sheridan, LA, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026 at his home. He was born in Sandy Hook, MS to the late Harrison Knight and Louise Mae Kennedy Knight.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Nell James Knight. Siblings Juanita Steadman, Ouida Hendry, Willie Youngblood, William Knight, Estelle Kennedy, Harrison Lamar Knight Jr., Carolyn Mixon.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Knight and his wife Caron and James Knight and his wife Beth. Grandchildren, Blake Knight (Crystal), Krissy Knight Haga (Warren), Kelly Knight Stubbs (Anthony), Todd Knight (Taylor), and Celeste Knight Stevens (Brandon). Great grandchildren Ethan Knight (Korinn), David Haga, Andrew Haga, Daniel Haga, Madelyn Stubbs, William Stubbs and James Paul Knight (JP). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
After four years in the United States Air Force, he began working at the Bogalusa Paper Mill before transitioning as a forester at Lee Memorial Forest where he retired. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Ruby to her family home in Stonega, Virginia as well the great Smoky Mountains. In his early years he enjoyed squirrel hunting with his family. For many years, as long as he was able, he grew a large vegetable garden to feed his family, friends, and neighbors. In addition to his vegetables, he grew a large patch of sugar cane and has been cooking syrup over thirty years. Above all he was very proud of his family and will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, Bogalusa, LA on Tuesday June 30, 2026. Visitation is from 9:00-10:00, with the service at 10:00. Interment will follow at Knight Cemetery in Sheridan LA with military rites being performed by the American Legion Post #24. Pallbearers are Blake Knight, Ethan Knight, James Knight, Todd Knight, Warren Haga, and Anthony Stubbs.
