Dennis Matthew Kates

March 9, 1950 — April 2, 2026

Mr. Dennis Matthews Kates passed away suddenly at his home on April 2, 2026 in Baton Rouge, LA.

Dennis the oldest of two brothers was born on March 9, 1950 to Thomas Matthew Kates and Gussie Mae Griffin Kates in Boglusa, LA.

Dennis was baptized at an earl age at Ebenezer Baptist Church. He graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1968 and recieved a D.S. Degree in Electrical Engineer from Southern University A& M College in 1972.

After graduation Dennis was hired at Crown Zellerbach as an Electrical Engineer where he worked for 25 years. After the death of his mother, Dennis moved to Baton Rouge where he worked as a Consultant for Courvillion Group, Shaw Group, presently working at Hargrove and Associates.

In his spare time loved watching the N.O. Saints, LA Lakers, building his computers, going out to eat and playing with his great nephews Tateum and Talton Kates.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Demond Spikes of Denham Springs; granddaughters, Ashley (Marlon) G. Dellafosse of Lake Charles, LA, and Dylam E. Davis of Hanover, NH; one great granddaughter, Marley Dellafusse; two brothers, Thomas Denard (Gloria) Kates and Paul (Vickie) Kates; Godson/Newphew, Trenton (Ashley) Kates; his cat black magic; special friends, Ana Truax and Carolyn Singleton and a host of other relatives and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas M. and Gussie M. Kates; grandparents, Layton and Dessie Ree Griffin, Thomas and Camille Kates; aunts, Mary Harrison, Gloria Hartfield, Gertrude Ball; uncles, Layton (JR), Luke, James W. Griffin and one nephew, Trevor A Kates.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 9:00AM - 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM with Rev. Stanley Nathaniel - Pastor Officiating. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
