Tropical Disturbances Today

Disturbance 1. Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight is located about 100 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina moving northwest at 3 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 50 MPH. A faster motion toward the northwest or north-northwest is expected today and Tuesday, followed by a gradual turn toward the north by Wednesday. On the forecast track, the low will reach the coast of South Carolina this afternoon and then move inland across the Carolinas tonight through Wednesday. Little change in strength is expected before the system reaches the coast, and the low still has a chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical storm. Weakening is forecast after the system moves inland, and it is likely to dissipate over the Carolinas by late Wednesday.

Disturbance 2. Tropical Depression Gordon is located about 1020 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands moving west at 8 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 30 MPH. A westward motion is expected during the next day or so, with Gordon forecast to slow down considerably through the middle of the week. Little change in strength is forecast during the next couple of days, though Gordon could become a post-tropical remnant low at any time.
