Loni Spears Edwards

September 20, 1944 - September 7, 2024

Loni Spears Edwards, age 79 and a resident of the Hays Creek Community, passed away Saturday morning September 7, 2024 at Fair City Health and Rehab in Franklinton. She was affectionately known as “Loni” to her family and friends. Loni was retired after a career with the Washington Parish School System as a bus driver for the Franklinton area schools. Her service was to the special needs students and she cared deeply for each and every one she got to know through the years. Their safety and well-being was always the most important thing she could provide them each day. Loni also worked as a waitress at Main Street Restaurant for many years and she loved visiting with her customers as they enjoyed their meals. She was a hard-working woman, as the family also operated a dairy farm for many years, and she did all she could to help provide for the needs of her family. Loni was an excellent cook, well known for her delicious chicken ‘n dumplins. Later in life, she enjoyed watching her favorite afternoon TV shows and spending quality time with her grandchildren and young great-grandchildren.

Survived by: Husband of 62 years: Bruce Edwards, Sr. of the Hays Creek Community; Son and Daughter in law: Bruce Edwards, Jr. and Tracie Edwards of Mt. Hermon; Daughter and Son in law: Sonja and Patrick Simmons of the Sheridan Community; Grandchildren and Spouses: Korey Edwards, Cody and Ashley Simmons, Brandon and Alyssa Simmons, Kevin and Caitlin Simmons; Great-grandchildren: Brantley Mack Edwards, Sawyer Beau Edwards, Talen Simmons, Bryce Slaughter, Ashton Slaughter, Julian Simmons, Sadie Simmons, Emery Simmons, Liam Simmons and an expected great-grandson; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Saralyn Spears, Frank O’Brien, Betty Edwards, Glenda Edwards, Pattie and Mickey King; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents T.C. and Ida Mae Spears, brother D.C. Spears, brother and sister in law Earl and Phala Spears, sister Jeanie O’Brien, father in law and mother in law John Edwards, Sr. and Ruby Lee Edwards, brothers in law Butch Edwards, Rusty Edwards and other family members.

Visitation will be at Hays Creek Southern Baptist Church (29043 W. Hayes Creek Road, Franklinton) on Tuesday September 10th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 12:00 pm Tuesday with Rev. Rick Elder and Rev. Frederick Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
