Tropical Disturbances Today

















1. Hurricane Beryl, a category 5 hurricane, is expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica on Wednesday. Beryl is located about 625 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica moving west-northwest at 22 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 165 MPH. Interests in the northwestern Caribbean should closely monitor the progress of Beryl. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will move quickly across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea today and is forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday.

2. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL96): A tropical wave is located about 1000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive for development of this system while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the western tropical Atlantic and eastern Caribbean Sea. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...30 percent.
