Franklinton Man Dies in Crash on La. 10

Tuesday (July 9, 2024) afternoon, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 10 near Twin Pines Road in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of 70-year-old Leon Curry Jr. of Franklinton.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Curry was westbound on LA Hwy 10 in a 2004 GMC Sierra. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC traveled off the roadway and struck a culvert.

Curry was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Curry was pronounced deceased on the scene. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Curry for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce crash injuries.
