The Slidell Police Department reported today (June 19, 2024) that 31 year-old Jonathan Bethancourt
of Slidell has been charged with eleven (11) counts of Video Voyeurism for placing a hidden camera inside of a guest bathroom at his home.
In late May, the SPD began investigating Bethancourt after a babysitter located a hidden camera (disguised in a smoke detector) inside of a bathroom in Bethancourt’s home. The victim took possession of the hidden camera and brought it to the SPD. Investigators executed a search warrant at Bethancourt’s home and located an additional hidden camera, as well as other incriminating evidence.
The investigation is still on-going and additional charges are expected, as investigators are still combing through substantial amounts of video evidence and have identified additional victims. At this point in the investigation, the evidence indicates that Bethancourt had cameras located at his home in Slidell and at a condominium in Orange Beach, Alabama. There is no indication that Bethancourt placed cameras in other locations.
Bethancourt was booked into the Slidell City Jail on May 29, 2024, and was later transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he has since posted bond.
Slidell Police are working closely with federal and Alabama authorities, due to the investigation crossing state lines.
***All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty***
