Joseph Sartin

October 31, 1951 - May 25, 2024

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord.   Psalms 121: 1-2

Joseph Sartin was born on October 31, 1951, to Annie Bell Lampton Sartin and Rev. Jacob Sartin, Jr. Joseph was baptized and accepted Christ into his life at an early age at Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the leaderships of the late Rev. Versie Smith and the late Rev. Tom Bailey Jr. Later in life Joseph joined New Triumph Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Powell Jr.

Joseph graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1971, after graduation Joseph joined the United States Army. Joseph was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, receiving both the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), the Vietnam Service Medal (VSM) with 1 Bronze Service Star, as well as the Staff and Personnel Support Marksmanship Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar for his valiant courage and heroic service to our country. After completing his tour of duty. Joseph moved to Washington, DC and began working for the federal government at the Smithsonian Institute. Joseph excelled further professionally when he became employed with the Washington, D.C. School System for over 20 years before retirement. This is where Joseph met and married the love of his life, Gloria Flipping. To this union they shared two daughters, Corenthia, and Carrie, and one son, David.

Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria Flipping Sartin; his parents, Rev. Jacob Sartin, Jr. and Annie Bell Lampton Sartin; one sister, Lillie Jean Sartin Nichols; maternal grandparents, Carrie Ludd Lampton and Levi Lampton; paternal grandparents, Ordin Sartin Wells, Jacob Sartin Sr. and Hozie Wells; brothers-in-law, Joey Robinson, Bobby Carroll Nichols, Willie Jackson, and Boyd James West.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories three children: two beautiful daughters, Corenthia Elixabeth Sartin (Tyrone) Hurley and Carrie Natalie Sartin and one loving son. David Flipping, all of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Tyrone Steven Hurley111, Eva Elizabeth Sartin, and Elayne Sherese Sartin, all of Washington, DC; six sisters, Carolyn Sartin (Jackie) Mayfield of Orange, TX, Glendora Sartin (Thomas) Buffington of Baton Rouge, LA, Shirey Sartin West of Chicago, Il, Janice Sartin Cooley Of McComb, MS, Sheila Sartin of Dallas, TX, Mechelle Sartin Robinson of Bogalusa, LA; one brother, Robert Earl Sartin of Rockledge, IL; two uncles, Jerry (Breland) Wells of Bogalusa, LA. and Roger Wells of Lombar, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

A drive through viewing will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. 

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 12:00 Noon at New Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. E.L. Powell – Pastor Officiating. Interment – Bogalusa Cemetery. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
