On Saturday (May 4, 2024), Deputy Kent of the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a report of theft at Oak Grove Church, located at 19840 Lee Road, Franklinton, Louisiana. Upon arrival, Deputy Kent met with the victim, who reported the theft of a trailer from the church premises. The trailer, containing tin and insulation intended for church expansion, was reported stolen.
Later that day, Lieutenant Cupp received information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen trailer. Lieutenant Cupp, along with Deputy Kent and Deputy Penton, responded to the scene located at 24185 Highway 62, Franklinton, Louisiana. Upon arrival, the deputies were informed that the stolen trailer was located on the property and had been brought there by 24 year-old Trenton Statham. Statham was subsequently arrested by Deputy Kent on charges of theft and possession of stolen goods.
Trenton Statham was transported to the Washington Parish Jail for booking. He faces charges under LA RS 14:67 for theft amounting to $5000 or more but less than $25000, and LA RS 14:69 for possession of stolen goods valued between $5000 and less than $25000.
Sheriff Randy “Country” Seal commends the quick response and diligent work of Deputy Kent, Lieutenant Cupp, and Deputy Penton in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen property.
