Suspect Sought in Independence Church Burglary

UPDATE (3:31 PM - April 12, 2024: Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the suspect has been identified as Michael Grand, a resident of Arkansas. Grand is currently in custody in Jefferson Parish on other charges and will be extradited to Tangipahoa Parish upon release.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is asking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect of a church burglary. Sheriff Daniel Edwards says on April 8. 2024 at around 5:30 PM, deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Faith Temple Church on Fontana Road in Independence. Upon arrival, deputies located a door forced open in the rear of the church.

After reviewing security camera footage (see below), an unknown white male was observed breaking into the door with a pry bar. The subject is then seen wandering the church opening doors until the alarm sounded. As the alarm sounded, the suspect ran out the door and fled in his vehicle, a maroon SUV believed to be a Jeep Compass.
