Child Custody Dispute Leads to Shooting in Angie

On Wednesday (April 10, 2024), at approximately 12:45 pm, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s
Office deputies responded to a residence in the Angie area following reports of a domestic dispute related to a child custody disagreement. As deputies were en route, a report of gunfire with at least one shooting victim was dispatched. The victim was transported to Our Lady of the Angels Emergency Room in Bogalusa prior to the deputies’ arrival. 

It was determined that an exchange of gunfire had occurred between a subject at the residence and three individuals who arrived at the scene by vehicle. The investigation is currently ongoing, with evidence being collected by law enforcement officials. At the time of this release, one subject, 23 year-old Scipio Burton, has been charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, while another subject, 24 year-old Marquez Smith (picture not available), has been charged with Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder.

The shooting victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from medical care.
