Update on January 11th Shooting in Bogalusa

January 18, 2024 Update: Police Detectives today identified and arrested a a second juvenile, 17 years of age, who was directly involved in the January 11th homicide. He was booked for the offenses of First Degree Murder, 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, an assortment of firearm offenses, and unlawful disruption of the operation of a school.  Additional arrests are still expected in the near future. 

Bogalusa Police Department Detectives have made three arrests, executed several residential search warrants, seized numerous firearms, and recovered vehicles that are believed to be associated with the homicide that occurred January 11, 2024. 

BPD Officers working a basketball game at the Bogalusa High School heard numerous gunshots coming from the area of M.J. Israel Dr and Avenue B. Officers located two black males suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began administering first aid, requested EMS and began securing the scene. Both subjects, identified as juveniles, were transported to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital for treatment. One died from his injuries.

A press release today (January 15, 2024) from the Bogalusa Police Department states “The Bogalusa Police Department has been working extensively and is committed to identifying and arresting all individuals involved in this incident. Those arrested to date include

  • A 16 year-old juvenile for his involvement in the homicide. His charges range from First Degree Murder, 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and an assortment of firearm offenses. 
  • 21 year-old JaMichael Spikes was arrested hours after the shooting for the offense of Obstruction of Justice. The investigation revealed additional details pertaining to Spikes’ and warrants were ultimately secured for the offenses of Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder, Principal to Illegal Use of Weapons, and Principal to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property. 
  • 18 year-old Caleb Moss was arrested Sunday (January 14, 2024), for the offenses of Obstruction of Justice, Accessory After the Fact of First Degree Murder, and 2 counts of Accessory After the Fact of Attempted First Degree Murder.

Numerous additional arrest warrants have been secured for other individuals associated with this incident and several more arrests are expected in the near future.
