MS Man Killed in Washington Parish Crash

Wednesday (September 13, 2023), shortly before 8:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 10 near LA Hwy 25 (near Franklinton) in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Bobby Harriel of Ruth, Mississippi.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Harriel was westbound on LA Hwy 10 in a 2017 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, Harriel lost control of the Nissan, which caused the Nissan to travel off of the roadway before it overturned into a small body of water.

Harriel was unrestrained and sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Harriel was transported to a local hospital before he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Two passengers in the Nissan were properly restrained and were uninjured. A toxicology sample was obtained from Harriel for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
