Update on Thursday Night Fire in Franklinton

The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office reported Thursday (August 17, 2023) night on two fires in Washington Parish - one in Franklinton and one in Angie. The State Fire Marshall has reported that a body was discovered in the remains of the home in Franklinton

The  Franklinton Fire Department had responded to a call around 4:00 PM about a house and surrounding brush fire located off of H.C. Rushing Road. The surrounding brush fire prevented firefighters from accessing the house fire for several hours. Unfortunately, firefighters later discovered a body inside of the remains of the home.

This investigation is still active and ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The State Fire Marshall has emphasized, once again, that our state is facing a SERIOUS drought and fire danger right now. We are pleading with all Louisianans to ❌🔥STOP ALL BURNING🔥❌ until conditions become less threatening. This includes those who DO have permits and permissions to burn-- please choose not to burn right now in consideration for your neighbors, communities and first responders.
