Katherine Wilda Bateman

November 1, 1924 - July 26, 2023

Katherine Wilda Bateman, aged 98 and and a resident of Hammond, Louisiana, died on July 26, 2023. Katherine was raised in Franklinton, Louisiana and lived for many years in Metairie, Louisiana. During her life, Katherine was a valued and loyal employee of the C. B. Fox Company of New Orleans and in August 1962, Katherine typed out the first New Orleans Western Union message to be sent through the innovative globe-circling Telstar communications satellite on behalf of Richard B. Fox of the C. B. Fox Company, which event was covered by the New Orleans States-Item at the time. Following Hurricane Katrina, Katherine moved to Hammond, Louisiana with her sister, Marilyn Mima Bateman, who preceded her in death in 2019. Katherine was also preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Bateman and Wilda Creel Bateman, and her brother, Charles Cullen Bateman.

Katherine is survived by many cousins, including Carolyn Bateman Hennesy, and many dear friends.

A graveside funeral service for Katherine will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at Ellis Cemetery (Highway 25 and 7th Avenue, Franklinton, LA) with Bro. Mark Goree officiating.
