Ray Gill Sorrell
January 30, 1944 - March 4, 2023
Ray Gill Sorrell, age 79 and a resident of the Lawrence Creek Community, passed away Saturday evening March 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Marion County, Mississippi on January 30, 1944 to the late Lewis Sorrell and Oneida Turnage Sorrell. Gill worked in construction and on various dairy farms prior to becoming disabled due to health conditions. He loved to buy, sell and trade and never met anyone he couldn’t make a deal with. Gill was a member of Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church. His greatest joy in life was spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survived by: Wife of 50 years: Joyce Thomas Sorrell of Lawrence Creek; 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Lisa and Gary Hyatt, Cindy and Bubba Taylor all of Franklinton; 2 Grandchildren and Spouses: Melissa McNeese Thomas and Mitch Polk, Brent “B.J.” and Kasey McNeese; 7 Great-grandchildren: Abrie, Landry, and Rush Thomas, Brodie, Presli, Adlee and Rogue McNeese; 2 Brothers and Sisters in law: James and Florine Sorrell of Franklinton, Joe and Alice Sorrell of Devine, TX; Sister in law: Jo Ann Hightower of Franklinton; Nephews: Chad, Brad and Brandon Hightower and their families; Special Friends and Neighbors: Scott and Mingo Brumfield and their family; Also numerous other friends and his church family
He was also preceded in death by son in law Joseph “Jody” McNeese, father in law and mother in law W.V. “Dub” Thomas and Helen Seals Thomas, brother in law Nute “Bud” Hightower.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday March 7th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday at Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church (28608 James Creel Road, Franklinton) from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 1:00 pm Wednesday with Eld. Don Jacobs, Eld. Duane Ball and Eld. Trey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
