Shelton Washington

October 7, 1939 - June 23, 2022

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:.4

Shelton Washington was born on October 7,1939 in Tylertown MS. He was the eldest of eight children born to the union of the late Otis Sr. and the late Verline Harvey Washington.  On June 23,2022 at his home in Franklinton LA at the age of 82 years old, a page was turned, and a chapter closed in the life of Shelton Washington.

Shelton began his formal education in Tylertown MS and completed it in Washington Parish Public School System. He decided to move to Cleveland Ohio where he resided for many years. He was employed by his favorite Uncle, Wille Harvey Sr, as a truck driver. Shelton relocated home to Franklinton LA and begin working at his Uncle Paul Harvey’s family gas station as a general attendant. He was also employed with the Town of Franklinton as tractor driver until he was injured on the job.

Later in life he reunited with and married his high school sweetheart, the late Pearlean Sanders Anthony. Together they enjoyed twenty-three years of marital bliss as best friends and partners. Shelton always said and made it known that he loved him some Pearlean. Shelton had a kind and humble spirit. He was willing to help anyone in any way he could as long as his health permitted.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved and devoted four stepchildren; Michael Anthony of Franklinton, LA, Andrew Jr. Anthony of Baton Rouge, LA, Derrick Anthony of Covington, LA, and Sandra Anthony Causey of Arlington, TX ; Ten step grandchildren; 11great step grandchildren; Five brothers - Felton (Brenda) Washington, Otis Washington Jr, all of Seattle WA, Artis Washington Sr, of Washington, DC, Eddie J. “Peter” Washington, of Franklinton LA, (Stepbrother) Tommy Mingo of Long Beach CA; Three sisters- Helen McMasters, Earlean (Cornelius) Comeaux, Beauty Carriere all of Settle, WA; Two uncles- Willie Harvey Sr, Cleveland OH, Andrew “June” Curley of Tylertown MS; Three aunts- Emma Jean Magee, Clara King both of Franklinton LA, Mary Ella Hall of Cleveland OH; Two sisters in law -Freddie (Calvin) Straughter, Annie Sanders both of Franklinton LA; Two brothers in law -Kenneth Sanders of Franklinton LA, Otis (Penni) Sanders of Alameda, CA; Devoted niece and caretaker Temeca Johnson and loving nephew Reginald McMasters along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 3:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Franklinton, LA with Rev. Johnny Causey, Sr. – officiating. Interment will be held in St. James Cemetery. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
