Franklinton Mayor and Board of Aldermen Meeting August 10, 2021

The Franklinton Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Tuesday (August 10, 2021) evening and 

• introduced Ordinance #1082, an ordinance to amend water rates for the Town of Franklinton. A Public Hearing and vote will be held at the August 24, 2021 meeting
• considered bids for the Varnado, 18th Ave. and Alford Street and drainage and street project. Jay Pittman with Spangler Engineering provided relevant information and answered questions regarding the bids. The low bid by Willis Construction of Sun, La. in the amount of $194,845.01 was approved
• reports were made by Police Chief Brown, Public Works Supervisor McMasters, and Municipal Clerk Waskom.

Beginning at 8:30 into the video, Chief Brown's report included monthly statistics, information on drug-related crimes, information on training, updates on the shooting incidents in July,  and information on recent thefts of UTV's. Brown later came back before the Board and commented on recovery of recent drowning victims and related issues.

Beginning at 16:00 into the video, Public Works Supervisor McMaster's report included monthly statistics and commented on issues that his department is dealing with. 

Beginning at 27:00 into the video, Municipal Clerk Waskom provided a sales tax report. Sales tax collections are up significantly over last year.

Following remarks by the Aldermen (beginning at 29:30 into the video), Mayor Route commented on the recent LMA convention, advised of a COVID-19 sick leave policy, reported on COVID-19 statistics, encouraged all the be vaccinated, advised of a blood drive at Town Hall on August 20, 2021, and commented on efforts to establish a four-lane for La. Hwy. 25 through Franklinton and to Ms. Hwy. 27.
