Jackie Leon Varnado

July 12, 1936 - June 13, 2021

Jackie Leon Varnado, age 84 and a longtime resident of the Enon Community, died early Sunday morning June 13, 2021 at his home. Jackie was born on July 12, 1936. He was a graduate of Enon High School that served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Era. Jackie was stationed in Bermuda, where he met his future wife for the first time. He later moved to her native Massachusetts and attended Northeastern University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Jackie was retired from the Washington Parish School Board after a long career with the Maintenance Department. He served as the Justice Of The Peace of his community for 20 years and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Jackie enjoyed farming, camping and listening to Bluegrass music.

Survived by: 5 Children and Spouses: Russ Varnado of Covington, Steven and Michelle Varnado of The Woodlands, TX, Bobby and Missy Varnado of Enon, Mary and Keith Ashford of Prairieville, John and Kim Varnado of Baton Rouge; Grandchildren and Spouses: Bret and Brye Varnado, Caroline Varnado, Derek and Megan Varnado, Dylan and Madelyn Varnado, Drew and Morgan Varnado, Matthew Ashford, Nolan Ashford, Haylee Ashford, Alex Vega, Madeline Varnado; Great-grandson: Wren Varnado; Brother and Sister in law: Kenneth and Pat Varnado of Toledo Bend; 2 Sisters: Patsy Green, Judy Thigpen both of Enon; Also numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife Millie Varnado, parents Lat Varnado and Roxie Jones Varnado, brother Russell Varnado, brother in law Frank Green.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Wednesday June 16th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday at Enon Baptist Church (14049 Hwy. 16, Franklinton) from 1:00 pm until the funeral service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chris Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Knight Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at the address above.

Pallbearers are his grandsons Bret, Derek, Dylan, Drew, Matthew, Nolan, Alex
