People – Check on elderly neighbors, family and friends. The dangerously cold wind chills could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. If you must travel, keep an extra blanket, flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages.
Pets – Bring pets indoors or make sure they have a warm shelter with access to unfrozen water
Pipes – The cold temperatures will damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
Plants – Protect sensitive vegetation. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crop sand other sensitive vegetation.
Parish President Thomas has communicated that he can not stress enough the importance of making preparations now for the possibility of very cold temperatures and hazardous conditions over the next few days.
