FPD Chief Smith Gives Report/Remarks on Drug Overdoses

Following his monthly report, Franklinton Police Chief Olander Smith related that Washington Parish has had 67 drug overdoses from January 1-July 31, 2018. The Chief touched on efforts to help address the problem and indicated he will be gathering more information on this serious problem. (Watch video)

Chief Smith provided his department's stats and comments at the Franklinton Board of Aldermen meeting on August 28, 2018. Information provided is actually inclusive of July 23 to August 27, 2018. The report reflected a total of 793 Calls for Service, divided into the headings of Public Assistance, Traffic, and Criminal Patrol.

Responses for Public Assistance included general complaints (297), extra patrols (79), medical calls (47), alarms (35), and suspicious persons or vehicles (43). Traffic activity included traffic stops (110), vehicle crashes (21), hit and runs (3), reckless operation (10), DWI (4), and citations (43).
Criminal Patrol responses included disturbances (30), fights (5), simple battery (3), criminal damage to property (7), burglaries (3), theft and shoplifting (9), and narcotics (7). Officers made 33 total arrests.

Chief Smith also reported on the Washington Men's Club Teen Summit at Cassidy Park in Bogalusa, on meeting with Washington Parish School Superintendent Fairburn on school safety and active shooter issues, and other activities.
