Tangi Man's Reason for Fatal Hit & Run: “Just to Scare Them”

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports Bennie Jones (54) has earned a spot at the Parish Jail by  being arrested yesterday (June 28, 2017) for a hit and run that occurred at the KOA Campground on June 18, 2017.  He is charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder.
Deputies, responding to the hit and run, found first responders already on the scene attempting to render aid to the two pedestrians who had been struck by a vehicle while walking on the shoulder of the road.
Jones stated he is responsible for the death of Ponchatoula resident Walter Collier (31) and for injuring a 30-year old female when he struck them with his grey Toyota Camry. Jones’ motive was personal in nature and alleged his intention was just to scare them.
