Mandeville Police Officer Dies in Off-duty Incident

Mandeville Police Detective, Lieutenant Minton “Vaughn” Whitehead died Sunday (April 23, 2017) just before noon after he fell approximately 20 feet from an extension ladder while he trimming trees at a residence off of Tantela Ranch Road near Folsom. Whitehead was airlifted to North Oaks Hospital in Hammond where he was pronounced dead.
The 64-year old Whitehead had been with the Mandeville Police Department for nearly 28 years, starting in 1989. He worked various assignments in patrol, investigations and fleet management. For the last several years he supervised the department’s investigations division.
MPD Chief of Police Gerald Sticker said, “Vaughn was more than an employee, he was family. We are a relatively small, close-knit department. Vaughn was respected and well-liked by all the men and women of this department and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Vaughn’s family during this tragic time.”
