Rev. James E. Magee, Sr.

April 10, 1945 - January 01, 2021

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8

James Magee, Sr. was born to the late John W. Magee and Minnie Magee on April 10, 1945 in the city of Bogalusa, LA. James went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021. 

James graduated from Central Memorial High School with the class of 1967. Soon after, he was drafted into the United States Army. During his twenty years of service, he married his wife, Tinie Magee, and to this union three sons were born. He later received a doctorate degree in Theology.

In 1996, he became the pastor of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church. He loved his church family dearly and always felt it was a privilege and a joy to pastor his flock. There were several Christian mentors during this journey, Rev. Duncan, Rev. Mims, Rev. Tom Bailey, Dec. Normel Keller, Sr., and Brisco Crain.

He leaves to cherish his wife of 50 years, Tinie Magee; three sons, James, Anthony, and Cedric Magee; eight grandchildren; a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews; a special friend, Mr. Willie McCray (Old Man). He is also survived by his siblings, Bessie, Charles Ray (Doris), Lillie Rose, Florence, and Rosetta; two sisters-in-law, Pearlie, Ella; and one brother-in-law, Robert (Regina).

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Magee; siblings, Ora Dee, John, Jr., Alvin, Jennifer, Jewel, Clyde, George, Leandrus, Michael; two brothers-in-law, Roy and Esco; and a great grandson, Nigel.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Bogalusa are in charge of Arrangements.
