Bessie Stokes Knight

June 15, 1927 - January 2, 2021

Bessie Stokes Knight, age 93 and a resident of Pine, was born on June 15, 1927 in Amite and passed away Saturday night January 2, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center. She was a caring and supportive wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her daughters and family. Bessie was a dedicated worker, taking her job duties very seriously. After retiring as a deputy clerk from the Clerk of Court Dewaine Seal, she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.

A former member of the Homemaker’s Club, Bessie spent many hours sewing and quilting, making handmade crafts to display at the Washington Parish Fair and Mile Branch Settlement. Tending to her flower beds was one of her favorite hobbies in which she passed this passion on to her grandson Grant. She was a member of Pine First Baptist Church and was devoted to working with the ladies church group that provided handmade diapers and blankets for infants and children in need through the church missions.

Survived by: 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Bessie Sue and Doyle West of Brookhaven, MS, Barbara and Ronald Gerald of Pine; Grandchildren and Spouses: Rodney and Agnes West of Madison, MS, Roxanne and Eddie Harper of Brookhaven, Jeffrey Cutrer of Jacksonville, FL, Grant Gerald of Covington; Great-grandchildren: Courtney West, Belle West, Jamie Cutrer, Johnny Cutrer, Shelby Cutrer, Logan Shaw, Avery Gerald, Jackson Gerald; Also several great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

She was preceded in death by her daughter Jerri Knight Cuti, husband of 59 years John Lee Knight, parents Eddie Stokes and Mollie Bond Stokes, 5 sisters and 4 brothers.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday January 8th from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A graveside funeral service will be held in the Nobles Cemetery at 2:30 pm Friday with Rev. Harold Gaddy officiating. Covid guidelines and restrictions will be followed by all who attend.
