Richard Earl Bates
September 21, 1946 - July 30, 2020

Richard Earl Bates, age 73 and a resident of Thomas, died Thursday morning July 30, 2020 at his home. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a former welder at shipyards in the area. Richard later worked as a painter and other contracting jobs. He always enjoyed building things. Richard loved deer hunting and fishing.

Survived by: 3 Children and Spouses: Richard Dwayne Bates and Melissa Bates of Thomas, Melissa Bates and Jason Hunt of Columbia, MS, Bryan Patrick Bates and Brittney Bates of Franklinton; Grandchildren: Cody Bates, Justin Bates, Colbie Bates, Heylie Tackett, Marley Hunt, Maddison Hunt, Bailey Bates, Bryanna Bates; Brother and Sister in law: Glen and Linda Bates; Sisters and Brothers in law: Ruth and Paul Bailey, Susan and James Haley; Also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wives Janelle Bates and Claretha M. Bates, parents Bunyan Bates and Fordia Smith Bates, brothers Eugene Bates, Roy Bates, Howard Bates.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday August 1st from 8:00 am until 10:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am Saturday with Rev. Leon Hickman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
