Bogalusa Police Investigate Threat Involving Washington Parish Free Fair

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at approximately 2:54 p.m., Bogalusa Police officers responded to a report of threats involving a potential shooting at the Washington Parish Free Fair later that evening.

The complainant reported that an individual had threatened to bring a firearm to the fair and shoot individuals involved in a personal dispute. He also said that the individual had told him that he was on his way to pick up another individual and they were on their way to the fair. Officers located the individual shortly afterward and observed ammunition inside his vehicle. During a consensual search, officers recovered a modified .22-caliber rifle, ammunition and suspected marijuana.

45-year-old Brian Paquin of Bogalusa was charged with

  • LRS 14:40.1-Menacing
  • LRS 32:415-Suspended Drivers License
  • LRS 40:966E-Simple Possession of Marijuana

Officers continued the investigation, contacted potentially affected individuals, and coordinated with law enforcement agencies at the fairgrounds. A second individual connected to the reported threat was also notified that he was prohibited from entering the fairgrounds for the remainder of the year.

Chief James Smith said “Our officers did an outstanding job on this. They worked fast to identify and locate the suspect and bring what could have been a tragic situation under control.”

The Bogalusa Police Department takes threats of violence seriously and encourages anyone with information regarding a potential threat to immediately contact law enforcement.

Update on May, 2026 Shooting in Loranger - Jamarcus Johnson Remains Wanted

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reports on the ongoing investigation into a trailer park shooting
incident from May, 2026. At that time, the TPSO was called out to North St. Charles Avenue in the Loranger area for multiple reports of shots fired. The investigation revealed that an argument between two groups resulted in gunfire that injured three people. Veronica Johnson, age 50, and Jamarcus Johnson, age 18, were eventually identified as having come to the neighborhood with the gun that was used in the shooting. The individual who fired the weapon was determined to have acted in self-defense and will not face charges.

Christopher Grayer, age 42 and of Independence, was booked on two counts of Possession of Schedule II narcotics, Possession of Schedule IV narcotics, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Derrick Turner, age 47 and of Hammond, was booked on one count of Resisting an Officer.

Last month, after the TPSO announced arrest warrants for the Johnsons (unknown relation), Veronica was taken into custody. However, Jamarcus remained at large.

***All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty***

This week, the Northshore-based FBI Gang Task Force went to a home on Turner Lane in Hammond in search of Jamarcus Johnson. While there, the team found marijuana, cocaine, and various pills along with guns. Grayer and Turner were arrested at the end of that operation. However, Johnson is still wanted.
