Slidell Man Pleads Guilty in 2018 Double Homicide Case – Will Serve 65 Years in Prison

District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that Steven Lee Olivieri, age 33 and from Slidell, pled guilty this week, to one count of manslaughter, one count of obstruction of justice, one count of a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession or manufacturing of a bomb. He is set for sentencing on November 29th before District Judge Vincent Lobello. He will be sentenced to 40 years in prison for manslaughter and 25 years for obstruction of justice, to run consecutively to each other. The sentences for the other two charges will run concurrently, for a total of 65 years in prison. The families of the victims actively participated in the negotiation of the terms of the plea agreement. The families are scheduled to give victim impact statements at the sentencing hearing.

On February 16, 2018, the mother of the female victim in this case called the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office to report her daughter, Raegan Day, missing. Day was last seen the previous day leaving Pearl River with her friend, Dustin Hartline. The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation to locate the two.

During the course of the investigation, detectives developed information that Day had been in communication with Brittney Savell, who convinced Day and Hartline to pick her up in a Slidell neighborhood for a potential drug purchase. Once a passenger in the car, she directed them to drive to an abandoned property near a home where she had been staying.

When they arrived, Jason Landry and Derrien Lemoine exited an abandoned mobile home with their faces covered, armed with handguns. They forced the two victims out of the vehicle at gunpoint and directed them to walk down a trail into a wooded area. As they were walking, Landry shot Hartline in the back of the head, killing him. The gunshot startled Lemoine, causing him to accidentally discharge his weapon, striking Landry in the foot. Then, Landry shot Day in the back of the head.

Landry, Lemoine, and Savell fled the scene and relocated to a residence where Olivieri resided. They advised their friend Olivieri what had transpired. Olivieri and Lemoine went back to the abandoned property to hide the bodies.

As Olivieri and Lemoine approached the murder scene, they discovered that Day was still alive. According to the police investigation, Olivieri ignored Day’s pleas for help and shot her in the head, killing her. Lemoine and Olivieri then moved both victims’ bodies off of the trail to the edge of the wood line, covered them with debris and fled. Olivieri discarded the .25 caliber handgun he had used to kill Day in a nearby water pit.

Later that night, Lemoine returned to the property and put the victims’ bodies in Day’s Camaro. Olivieri followed him to the East Pearl River boat launch off of Highway 90 near the Louisiana/Mississippi State Line where they dumped the vehicle, along with the victims’ bodies, into the river. Eighteen days later, authorities found the vehicle and the bodies in the East Pearl River.

Assistant District Attorneys Jay Adair and Tiffany Dover prosecuted the case. Lieutenant Larry Hudson with the St. Tammany Police Department Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation.

Three Sentenced in 2018 Slidell Double Homicide Case

Collin Sims, District Attorney (Interim), reports that on Wednesday (November 29, 2023), the
following defendants were sentenced by District Judge Vincent Lobello.

• Steven Lee Olivieri, age 33, was sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter; 25 years for obstruction of justice; 20 years for felon in possession of a firearm and 20 years on possession or manufacturing of a bomb. The court ordered the manslaughter and obstruction of justice charges to run consecutive and the other charges run concurrent for a total of 65 years in prison.
• Brittney Michelle Savell, age 31, was sentenced to 30 years on each two counts for conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a firearm; 30 years on each two counts second-degree manslaughter; and 30 years for each two counts of second-degree kidnapping. The court ordered all of the charges run concurrent for a total 30 years in prison. The kidnapping and conspiracy counts are without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
• Derrion Joseph Lemoine, age 28, was sentenced to 40 years on each two counts for conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a firearm; 40 years on each two counts for manslaughter; 40 years on each two counts of second-degree kidnapping; 40 years on obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence and 20 years on one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony. All counts are to run concurrent for a total of 40 years in prison. The kidnapping and conspiracy counts are without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence

Landry, a 4th defendant in this case pled guilty and was sentenced in March 2023, to 40 years in prison for each manslaughter count; 40 years for each count of kidnapping and 30 years for each count of conspiracy. The court ordered two of the 40-year sentences to run consecutive, so he will serve a total of 80 years in prison.

The families of the victims were involved in formulating the terms of the plea and sentencing agreements. The families also gave their victim impact statements at the sentencing hearing.

23 Year-Old Slidell Man Sentenced to 80 Years on Manslaughter, Kidnapping, and Armed Robbery Charges

District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that Jason David Landry, age 23 and from Slidell, pled guilty on March 22, 2023 to two counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree kidnapping and two counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a firearm. He was sentenced by District Judge Vincent Lobello to 40 years in prison for each manslaughter count; 40 years for each count of kidnapping and 30 years for each count of conspiracy. The court ordered two of the 40-year sentences to run consecutive, meaning the defendant was sentenced to serve a total of 80 years in prison. The plea agreement and sentencing were agreed upon by the families of both victims.

Landry also pled guilty this week to an unrelated second-degree battery he committed against another inmate in the St. Tammany Parish jail.

The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation to locate the daughter, Raegan Day, and her boyfriend, Dustin Hartline. They were last seen when they left Pearl River in a blue Camaro on February 15, 2018 to travel to Kenner.

It was later learned that, while en route to Kenner, Day received a call from “co-defendant 1” who convinced Day and Hartline to pick her up and take her to a Slidell residence for a potential drug purchase. She directed them to drive to an abandoned property near the home of “co-defendant 4” where she had been staying with Landry and the other co-defendants in this case.

When they arrived, Landry and “co-defendant 2” exited an abandoned mobile home with their faces covered, armed with handguns. They forced the victims out of the vehicle at gunpoint and directed them to walk down a trail into a wooded area. As they were walking, Landry shot Hartling in the back of the head, killing him. The gunshot startled “co-defendant 2,” causing him to accidentally discharge his weapon, striking Landry in the foot. Then, Landry shot Day in the back of the head.

Landry and “co-defendant 1” got into Day’s Camaro and left the scene. “Co-defendant 2” sought out “co-defendant 3,” and they both returned to the scene where they discovered that Day was still alive. According to the police investigation, “co-defendant 3” ignored Day’s pleas for help and shot her in the head, killing her. “Co-defendant 2” and “co-defendant 3” then moved both victims’ bodies off of the trail to the edge of the wood line, covered them with debris and fled.

“Co-defendant 3” discarded the .25 caliber handgun used to kill Day in a nearby water pit. Landry was driven to Slidell Memorial Hospital and had the bullet surgically removed from his foot.

Later that night, “co-defendant 2” returned to the property and put the victims’ bodies in Day’s Camaro. “Co-defendant 2,” followed by “co-defendant 3” in his vehicle, drove the Camaro to the East Pearl River boat launch off of Highway 90 near the Louisiana/Mississippi State Line where they dumped the vehicle, along with the victims’ bodies, into the river. Eighteen days later, authorities found the vehicle and the bodies in the East Pearl River.

Police learned of another suspect, “co-defendant 4,” who owned the house where all of the other defendants were living. He played a role in this incident as well. Subsequent to the ensuing investigation and witness statements, the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office arrested all five individuals. The remaining defendants will be tried later.

Family members for both victims were present in Court and gave impact statements. “We are left with questions and memories. We believe it is now our job…to make sure justice is served. It starts today with Jason Landry, spending the rest of his life in jail thinking about what he did and the impact his decisions left on this family.”

DA Montgomery stated, “The heinous nature of these crimes deserves the most serious consequences. Thanks to Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair who prosecuted the case and to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office who investigated the case, this killer has been held accountable.”

Four Arrested for Murder of Two from Pearl River

Jason Landry (age 18) of Slidell, Brittney “Beezy Savell (25) of Slidell, Derrion Lemoine (22) of Lacombe, and Steven “Stevie” Olivieri (27) of Slidell have been arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for two counts each of First Degree Murder in connection with the deaths of Raegan Day and Dustin Hartline. 
Landry and Savelle were apprehended with the assistance of Waveland Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.
All individuals directly involved in the murders are in custody. However, the investigation is ongoing and other arrests are possible.
Monday (March 5, 2018), members of the STPSO dive team and detectives located a 2011 Chevrolet Camero with the bodies of Raegan Elizabeth Day (20) and Dustin R. Hartline (28) inside. The deceased were friends reported missing from the Pearl River area since February 15, 2018.
The investigation into their disappearance led detectives to the East Pearl River Boat Launch, where the vehicle was located Monday afternoon.
