On May 21, 2026, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) was called out to North St. Charles Avenue in the Loranger area for multiple reports of shots fired. Upon deputies’ arrival at the shooting scene, no victims were initially found, but evidence of multiple shots fired was located. Then it was learned that three victims, who received non-life-threatening injuries, were taken to a local hospital by private vehicle before deputies arrived. The three victims were a 50-year-old woman, a 17-year-old male, and a 33-year-old woman.
Deputies also learned that two groups got into a verbal dispute in the neighborhood. Residents emerged from their homes to try to intervene and get the groups to leave. However, that turned into an exchange of gunfire and the circumstances leading up to that are still under active investigation. The Johnsons (unknown relation at this time) were identified as having come to the neighborhood with the gun that was used in the shooting. The individual who fired the weapon was determined to have acted in self-defense and will not face charges.
