What began as an investigation into a shoplifting incident at a Covington-area retail store resulted in two people being arrested on drug and weapons charges. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified Saturday (August 8, 2026) after a man was observed “swapping tags” while checking out at a Covington-area home improvement store. Through their investigation, deputies identified the man as 38-year-old Garrett Boucvalt and a warrant was issued for his arrest for L.R.S. 14:68.7 – Receipts and Universal Product Code Labels; Unlawful Acts.
On Sunday (August 9, 2026), the same STPSO patrol deputy who responded to the original shoplifting complaint went to Boucvalt’s residence in the 800 block of Heather Hollow near Covington to execute a search warrant in an attempt to locate Boucvalt and the stolen property. While at the residence, the deputy located firearms and unlabeled prescription bottles. A rifle, a shotgun, a pistol and methamphetamine were located and seized from the home.
Boucvalt was located hiding inside a locked bedroom closet and was taken into custody. He was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the warrant for L.R.S. 14:68.7 Receipts and Universal Product Code Labels; Unlawful Acts, in addition to three counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery, one count of L.R.S. 14:95(E) – Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of CDS, one count of L.R.S. 40:967(C) Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine), and two counts of Contempt of Court.
Also at the residence was 44-year-old Stefanie Wright who was taken into custody after deputies determined she had assisted Boucvalt in concealing himself inside the locked closet. She was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for one count of L.R.S. 14:130.1 Obstruction of Justice, three counts of L.R.S. 14:95.1 Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of L.R.S. 40:967(C) Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine), and four counts of L.R.S. 40:1060.13 Possession of a Legend Drug.
