Rita Von Pittman Mizell
October 30, 1938 - July 9, 2026
Rita Von Pittman Mizell, age 87 and a resident of Franklinton, Louisiana, passed away Thursday evening July 9, 2026 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was retired after a career as a baker for Family Bakery in Bogalusa for over 20 years. Rita loved decorating cakes and even taught classes on decorating at the YMCA in Bogalusa for several years. She enjoyed making quilts, completing many beautiful quilts through the years that she shared with friends and family. Rita and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida and had visited Walt Disney World together over 30 times, a very fun accomplishment they were proud of. They also liked to visit flea markets looking for that perfect treasure. She always loved cooking delicious meals for her family and friends.
Survived by: Husband of 68 years: David Mizell; Daughter and Son in law: Jeanie and Jerry McCain; Grandson and Spouse: Dale and Tonya McCain; Grandchildren: Seth and Angel McCain, Christian McCain, Makayla McCain; Great-grandsons: Jett McCain, Kreaux McCain; Brother in law and Sister in law: Huey and Gloria Mizell; Also numerous nieces, nephews and their families
She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie Pittman and Pearl Reagan Pittman, sisters Betty Pittman, Doris Pittman, Ella Jean Folse, brother Horace Pittman and other family members.
Rita will be laid to rest in the Mizell Cemetery at 3:00 pm Saturday July 11, 2026
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to a church or local charity of your choosing.
