Herbert McKenzie

August 26, 1941 - July 30, 2026

Herbert McKenzie, age 84 and a resident of Forest Haven Community died at 02:26 am Thursday, July 30, 2026, at St. Tammany Hospital, Covington, Louisiana. He was a longtime member of Forest Haven Missionary Baptist Church. Herb served 35 years in the National Guard with multiple tours overseas. He was a well-known businessman in Washington Parish having owned a car dealership and helped to establish C & M Grocery. In later years, he operated McKenzie’s Body Shop where he did more work for friends and family than he did paying customers. He greatly enjoyed piddling in the garden, woodworking and fishing anytime he had a chance. Even more than he loved his hobbies he loved his family and friends and he was blessed to call most everyone he met a friend.

Survived by: Wife: Leslie Labot McKenzie; Daughter and son in law: Kristi McKenzie Stogner and Russ; Granddaughter and spouse: Haley Thomas – Faust and Meg; Step grandchildren and spouses: Jeremy Stogner, Josh Stogner and Grant Blanchard, Amanda and Chis Faucheaux; Children and spouses: Camilla Rogers and Joseph, Tim Matthews and Toni, April Holm and Jesper; Numerous grandchildren; Sisters and brothers in law: Diane and Wayne Taylor, Debbie and Val Haaga, David and Sharon McKenzie; Sisters in law and brother in law: Betty Cooper, Anita and David Wood; Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends

He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Thomas McKenzie, his parents Hershel and Marcelle Breland McKenzie, brother Donald McKenzie and other family members.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Forest Haven Missionary Baptist Church from 12 Noon until 3 pm. A funeral will be held at 3 pm in the church with Eld. Richard Magee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
