Obituary

Susan Ann Mizell Martin

September 29, 1955 – July 1, 2026

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Susan Ann Mizell Martin, was granted eternal rest and peace by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as she made her final transition to her heavenly home. II Corinthians 5:8 says, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn our great loss; however, we are comforted to know that she has now traded her earthly pain, trials, and troubles for her new and permanent address in Heaven where there are no more heartaches, pain, or fear, and most definitely no more battles with cancer. II Timothy 4:7-10 says, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord shall give me on that day: and not to me only, but to all of them that love his appearing. Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me.”

She was a Bogalusa, LA native born on September 29, 1955, as the eldest child of Annie Louise Crosby Jones and Huey M. (Gloria) Mizell. A 1974 graduate of Bogalusa High School, she was a dedicated and hard worker that had many jobs throughout the years, but she persevered and later obtained her license as a CNA and worked for numerous years with Southeast Louisiana Home Health until she retired. In addition to being a CNA, she also provided in-home care to numerous clients throughout the area as a private personal sitter. She was dearly loved and often requested by many of her patients; however, not only did they love and respect her, but she loved and cared for each of them as if they were part of her extended family as well, often carrying homemade meals and treats to them. She was a woman of great faith, an unashamed child of the Lord that never ceased to share the Word and the goodness of God everywhere she went. She was a true prayer warrior, and would often stop and pray, witness, or give an encouraging word to others wherever she found herself- at stores, restaurants, hospitals, etc. She was an active member of Calvary Christian Fellowship where she faithfully worshiped and served her Lord and Savior until her health declined. The joy of the Lord was upon her, and she loved to share that joy with others. In addition to attending church & worshiping, she was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, patients, and really anyone who knocked on her door and needed a good & hot meal from the community. She would always “fill your belly”, show you love and kindness, provide a listening ear, and give you lots of good heartfelt advice (whether it was what you wanted to hear or not). She also loved a good shopping outing filled with lots of love and laughter and great deals on earthly treasures. Of course, it goes without saying that during the outing there was going to be a stop or two for some good food along the way. She loved nature and the great outdoors, sitting on the porch or near a window with a cup of coffee or sweet tea watching the birds and looking at the flowers was one of her favorite places to be perhaps next to being in The Great Smoky Mountains. She loved adventure and was always ready for the next one. Though she was affectionately known as “Sue” to many throughout the community who’s lives she touched in some way great or small, she was a loving Momma, Mother-in-Law, Grammy, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Cousin, Aunt, and Friend to others whom she leaves to cherish her life, love, and memories.

She is survived by: 1- Son: Beau David (Tena) Martin of Bogalusa, LA 2- Daughters: Cindi Ann Martin (Josh) Miller of Pine, LA and Hannah Collins Jones of Bogalusa, LA 6- Grandchildren: Victoria Martin, Annabell Jones, Adley Miller, Brinley Miller, William “Tate” Jones, and Finral “Fin” Jones 5- Siblings: Danny (Barbara) Mizell of Denham Springs, LA, Janice (Trey) Hoffman of Mandeville, LA, David (Shonia) Armour of Vidalia, GA, Tina Mizell Gerard, and Cathy Mizell Ritchie 1. Brother-in-Law: Jeff Roberts of Covington, LA Father: Huey M. (Gloria) Mizell of Isabel, LA Friend and Father of Her Children: Farrell (Gail) Martin of Bogalusa, LA Cherished Friend: Ida Martin of Poplarville, MS. In addition to many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Louise Crosby Jones; her grandparents, Pink and Onita Crosby and Martin and Lillie Mizell, her sister, Sherry Roberts, and Hollie “Pete” Martin whom she always considered as a father and friend; along with her grandbabies she never got to see or hold on this side of Heaven.

As per her request, there will be no traditional service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank those that showed compassion and provided care during this time, including, but not limited to, Compassus Hospice, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and STPH Oncology Nurses.
