Linda Elaine Crain
March 11, 1943 - May 16, 2026
Linda Elaine Crain, age 83 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Saturday May 16, 2026 at her home. She was born on March 11, 1943 and was a graduate of Franklinton High School, Class of 1961. Linda obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and later received her Master’s Degree from the University of New Orleans. Linda proudly taught American History to countless high school students in St. Bernard Parish for over 40 years. Following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, she returned to her native Washington Parish and retired from the classroom. Linda served as Director of the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce for a time and was a leading volunteer at the Knight Cabin in Mile Branch Settlement during the Washington Parish Free Fair each year. She studied genealogy and really enjoyed learning the history of her family and others in Washington Parish, frequently visiting hidden and often forgotten-about cemeteries in the area. Linda always had a special place in her heart for her pet dogs and cats.
Survived by: Sister and Brother in law: Shirley and George Sims of Little Rock, Arkansas; Also numerous beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Edwin Crain and Lena Knight Crain, sister Billie Faye Foster, sister and brother in law Charlene and David Stringfield and other family members.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Wednesday May 20th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Wednesday with Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery.
