Obituary

Roderich Tyrone Jefferson

March 3, 1966 - February 5, 2026

Roderich Tyrone Jefferson, affectionately known as Rod, was born on March 3, 1966, in Angie, Louisiana, to the late Marshall Lloyd Jefferson, Sr. and Chinesa Henry Jefferson. He was the youngest of eight children. At an early age, Rod began his Christian journey, joining Wesley Ray United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.R. Lafayette. As a young man, he further expressed his growing faith as a member of the Wesley Ray Community Male Chorus, where he shared his love for music in praise and worship.

He graduated from Varnado High School in 1984, where he proudly played trumpet in the marching band and served as Middle Linebacker on the football team. His talent on the field earned him several football scholarships. During his collegiate journey, he attended Pearl River Junior College, Pillsbury Baptist College, and Texas Southern University, opportunities that ultimately led him to Houston, Texas, where he established his home and built his life. After college, he worked as a Fork Lift/Press Operator for over 30 years, serving in this role across various companies.

Rod married his high school sweetheart Benita Richard on July 7, 1990. Their union was blessed with two children, Jaquelia and Sidney, and one granddaughter, Kamille. He extended his love beyond his home into the community by coaching little league football with the Stafford Cobras and little league baseball with the Sta-Mo New York Yankees. Through coaching, he instilled confidence in countless young athletes.

Throughout life, his spiritual foundation remained strong. He served faithfully at Greater True Vine MBC under the leadership of Rev. Matthew R. Alix, Sr. as an Usher and Youth Sponsor before uniting with New Hope MBC under the leadership of Rev. Kerry Sharp, where he remained a devoted member.

Rod will be remembered for his warm presence, gentle strength, and the deep love he extended to everyone around him. His life was marked by faith, integrity, and a deep commitment to those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marshall and Chinesa Jefferson; his dear sister, Selena Jefferson; his brothers, Oscar Jefferson, Sr. and James Craig Jefferson; his cherished godparents, Sidney and Willie Mae McNeal; his mothers-in-law, Julia Richard and Katherine Heidleburg; and his brother-in-law, Joe L. Lewis, Sr.
