Alvin Edward "Eddie" Handley, Sr.
May 5, 1941 - January 4, 2026
Alvin Edward "Eddie" Handley, Sr., age 84 and a longtime resident of Avondale, Louisiana, passed away Sunday evening January 4, 2026. He was retired after a career of restoring, maintaining and selling furniture. Eddie and his wife owned and operated Ava’s Antiques and Restoration on Magazine Street in New Orleans for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era and later was discharged into the Marine Reserve units. Eddie enjoyed fishing as his favorite pastime.
Survived by: 2 Sons and a Daughter in law: Edward Handley of Pittsburgh, PA, Brandon and Melinda Handley of Lucedale, MS; Grandchildren: Brandon Handley, Jr., Ella Handley; Sisters: Connie Mays, Rebecca Newell; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: Roy and Myrtle Magee of the Oak Grove Community, Ray Magee of Avondale, Eva Cousins of Covington; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Ava Elaine Magee Handley, parents Alvin Handley and Beulah Benefield Handley, siblings Patricia Handley, Johnny Handley and other family members.
A graveside funeral service will be held in the Jones Cemetery on Choctaw Road at 11:00 am Saturday January 10th with Rev. Derek Dantin officiating.
Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, Louisiana is in charge of arrangement.
