Obituary

Geraldine “Gerry” Lumpkin Williams

March 18, 1933 - January 20, 2026

Geraldine “Gerry” Lumpkin Williams passed away peacefully at Harvest Manor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in the Sones Chapel community of Mississippi on March 18, 1933, she was the eldest of two children born to Charlie and Ruby Spiers Lumpkin. Her sister, Charlyne Lumpkin Fournet Falcon, shared in her lifelong bond of love and family.

Gerry’s early years were spent in Mississippi, but the family later moved to the thriving city of Bogalusa, Louisiana. She attended Columbia Street School through 7th grade before completing her education at Bogalusa High School. It was in seventh grade that she met her future husband, George D. “G.D.” Williams, Jr. The couple dated through high school and married just weeks after Gerry's graduation, on March 22, 1951.

Gerry and G.D. went on to raise three children: Leah “Renee,” Mona Elise, and George “Todd.” She was a devoted mother and wife, providing unconditional love and support to her family. Once Todd started school, Gerry returned to the workforce, where she pursued further education at Sullivan Vo Tech. She worked as an automotive bookkeeper for both Magic City Motors and Mac Grubbs Automotive in Bogalusa.

Known for her diverse talents, Gerry had a deep love for music and learned to play both the piano and the accordion. She spent time at music school during her youth, and music remained a lifelong passion.

Gerry was an active, dedicated charter member of Westside Emanuel Baptist Church.  Once married, she moved her membership to Lee’s Creek Baptist Church where she served in numerous roles, including church treasurer, secretary, and choir member. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served as chairperson for the "Together We Build" program, which helped create the new church building.

In her retirement, Gerry returned to the workforce as a Hospital Liaison at Bogalusa Community Medical Center. She also contributed to her community as a tutor in the literacy program and worked as a CASA volunteer. Throughout her life, she cared deeply for others, especially her aging parents, whom she cared for both in her home and later at Resthaven Nursing Home.

The highlight of her retirement years was her beloved role as "Mama Gerry" to her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Gerry treasured every moment spent with them, often playing imaginative games at Cassidy Park, including her favorite role as the troll in “Billy Goats Gruff” on the bridges.

While we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that Gerry has been reunited with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on a glorious day. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, we are joyful in the promise that we will meet again.

Gerry is survived by daughters Leah Renee McGee, Mona Elise Welborn (Buddy), and son George Todd Williams (Therisa).  She is also survived by five grandchildren Wade Welborn (Jennifer), Meghan Welborn Achord, Lindsey McGee (Andrew Gordon), Matthew Williams (Nori), Dane Welborn (Kory), eight great-grandchildren, Sean Russell, Aubrey Coy, Aubrie Elise Welborn, Mia Grace Welborn, Brody Todd Achord, Andie Kate Welborn, Grayson Coy, Truett Dane Welborn, and sister Charlyne Fournet Falcon.

Preceded in death by husband of 68 years, George Dewey “G.D.” Williams, Jr., Charlie Lumpkin, Ruby Lumpkin Spiers (parents), George Dewey Williams, Sr (Thelma) (in-laws), Randy McGee (son-in-law), and Melissa McGee Coy (Nathan), granddaughter.

A life well-lived, Gerry’s legacy of love, faith, and service to others will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 1:00p.m. until the service time of 2:00p.m. at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Lee’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
