Lacombe Woman Arrested on Multiple Animal Cruelty Charges

Kathleen Leatherman, age 57 and of Lacombe, was arrested on Monday (December 1, 2025) on multiple animal cruelty charges.

Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office accompanied St. Tammany Parish Animal Control to a residence in the 60000 block of S. Pontchartrain Drive in Lacombe following a report of a dog not being properly cared for. Deputies discovered four severely malnourished dogs and two additional dogs suffering from significant injuries. St. Tammany Parish Animal Control took custody of the six dogs. While searching the residence, which was described as being in deplorable condition, deputies also located the bodies of two deceased dogs inside.

Kathleen Leatherman, the homeowner, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on four counts of simple animal cruelty and four counts of aggravated animal cruelty. No bond has been set as of this report.

“Cases like this are disturbing,” said Sheriff Randy Smith. “Our deputies and Animal Control officers work continue to work together to protect the vulnerable animals in our parish, and we will always pursue charges when we encounter cruelty of this nature. These dogs deserved better.”
