Shirley Blackwell Atkins
September 16, 1946 - October 24, 2025
Shirley Blackwell Atkins, age 79 and a resident of Folsom, passed away Friday evening October 24, 2025 at Pontchartrain Skilled Nursing Center in Mandeville. She was born September 16, 1946 and grew up in Folsom before graduating from Covington High School. Shirley then began a career at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office that spanned well over 40 years, working in the Civil and Tax Division. She was in a leadership role as Captain in the office for many years before retiring. Shirley enjoyed crocheting and traveling. She was a member of Bonner Creek Baptist Church. Shirley cherished all the time spent with her grandchildren and family.
Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Stephanie Atkins and Troy Ducre of Folsom; Grandchildren: Adrianna Atkins and Marissa Green, Princeton Hamilton, Ja’Niya Haynes; Great-grandson: Princeton Hamilton, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband Riley Atkins, parents Jesse Womack and Thelma Sandifer Womack, brother Shelby Blackwell, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) on Friday October 31st from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Friday with Rev. Red Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery on Mockingbird Hill Road in Folsom.
