Betty Jean Stewart Crain

October 19, 1933 - October 14, 2025

Betty Jean Stewart Crain was born on October 19, 1933 and passed away on October 14, 2025, at her residence in Bogalusa, LA at the age of 91.

Ms. Crain drove a school bus for over 48 years including full time service and filling in when other drivers needed help.  She loved her bus kids!  She also served as a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Louisiana School Employees Retirement System for over 14 years.

Betty was a lifelong member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church.  She loved her church and was very active until her health began to decline and was also the oldest member at her death.  She sang in the choir and was the Children’s Department Director for many years.

Ms. Crain was preceded in death by her husband Houston Crain; parents Ollie Mae Wilson Stewart and Coy Stewart; a son Joel R. Crain; granddaughter Kisha Dee Kennedy; two grandsons Joel Thomas and D.S. Thomas; brother Dewayne Stewart; and a sister Barbara Stewart Kennedy.

Betty is survived by one son Robert W. Crain; two daughters Dianne Crain (Mike) Applewhite, and Katherine Dee Crain; grandchildren Blake Griffith, Tori (Russell) Pullen, Chanda (J.W.) Sumrall, and Marie Skinner; seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by two special nephews Todd Kennedy and James (Ivy) Kennedy.

The family would like to thank Egan Hospice and her caregiver Danise Freeman for the care they provided to Ms. Betty.

Visitation will be held on Friday October 17, 2025, from 10:00a.m. until the service time of 1:00p.m. at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, Rev. Cody Masters will officiate, and interment will be held in Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
