The Covington Police Department reports that on October 20, 2025, three more suspects were arrested for a shooting that occurred on October 3, 2025. One juvenile suspect was taken into custody during the initial response. Arrested on October 20, 2025 were 20-year-old Jason Lewis, Jr. of Baton Rouge, 18-year-old Jaylen Lewis of Baton Rouge, and 21-year-old Manaive Alexander of Covington. All three were charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime of Violence, and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.
On October 3, 2025, officers with the Covington Police Department and deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to North Filmore Street and West 33rd Avenue after reports of multiple gunshots in the area. More than a dozen shell casings were recovered. Detectives determined that three individuals exchanged gunfire following an argument. Dozens of innocent children and adults were present in the area when the gunfire erupted.
Chief Michael Ferrell expressed his gratitude to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Homeland Security, and the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Apprehension Task Force for their vital assistance in locating and apprehending the suspects involved.
