Obituary

Edward Dillon Thompson

November 11, 1939 - September 3, 2025

Edward Dillon Thompson was born on November 11, 1939, in Liberty, Mississippi, to the late Joseph and Lillie T. Thompson, one of six children. Edward was raised in Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age.

After completing high school, He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and served in the United States Army before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana. It was in New Orleans that he met his wife of over fifty years, Rev. Fannie Amelia Otis Thompson.

While in New Orleans, Edward worked at A&P Grocery store before retiring as a bus driver from the Regional Transportation Authority city bus company.

Most of us who had the pleasure of knowing Edward would describe him as a quiet, humble and gentle man whose acts of kindness were frequent and never boastful. He never failed to care for his wife, children and grandchildren, relatives and community when called upon. His acts of service also included his duties as an Usher at Hartzell United Methodist Church in New Orleans and Thirkield United Methodist Church in Bogalusa, in both of which he held membership.

Edward leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Brigget (Ronnie) Y. Thompson Davis, Smyrna, Tennessee; his sons Aaron M. Thompson, Crofton, Maryland, and Edward M. Thompson, Baltimore, Maryland. Siblings, Shirley (Edward) Green of Liberty, Mississippi; Harrison Thompson, Waukegan, Illinois; Sister-In-Laws Linda Thompson, Liberty, Mississippi; Yvonne Wilson, Los Angeles, California; and Marvel Le'Gare, Springfield, Massachusette; Brother-in Law, Amos (Jean) Young Bogalusa, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie, daughter, Zelda T. Johnson, brothers Jerry THompson and Herman Thompson and sister Roxie Thompson

Services will be at on September 9, 2025 at Thirkield United Methodist Church in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM.
